"I still hold the overall opinion that Uno is in no way a great album, BUT it is what Green Day needs to be at this point. The band is never going to be the punk side of pop punk again at this point in their career, so they should just strive to be a pop rock band with a slight tinge of punk which seems to be the direction that Uno chose to take. But then everything after it happened and so it seems that they gave up on that glimmer of hope."

I agree with you, Uno and even Tre were good directions to go in at this later stage of their career. I appreciated the trilogy if anything for the fact that they put effort into the guitar work for once and added some solos.

If they kept that style and fleshed out the songwriting more instead of throwing 30-40 songs at the wall I think the band would be in a much different place right now than with this piece of work

IMO This > the trilogy...

at least it's short enough to make me bother to listen it.

This makes Maroon 5 sound like Slayer - throw it in a pit and put a landfill site on top.

A lot of defence along the lines of 'is music - has words and instruments maybe some songs'

Sounds like it took half an hour to write - if you rate this above a 1 out of 5 check yourself

this album is just a yikes all around. Don't know how they listened to this at the end of the day and thought that it was "rock and roll," or even good music

I think this is a classic case of a band not knowing where to go or what to do. They have the talent to write magnificent songs, but they always seem to fall back on what's easiest instead of what's challenging.

I find myself trying to justify each new Green Day album when it comes out - the trilogy: oh there's one semi good album buried in here, RevRad: there are few good songs and ideas but nothing great, this: there's one mediocre song that could've been on RevRad.

The main defense here seems to be that it was purposely a throwaway album to get out of the contract with their label, but even if that's true, it (1) still screws the fans, and (2) doesn't explain the fact that they've been terrible for a decade.

I still don't see how all of you could possibly find this worse than their past 4 albums (yes, I know, low bar!). I would almost rather jam this than the boring slosh of 21st Century. I at least passively enjoy this playing in the background.
