She Knows Too Much (Watching Movies era). Mac and Thundercat pop banger



The Bargain (Faces era), maybe lyrically my favourite Mac song of all time



8:21 & O'Captain My Dragons (Faces era). two songs but they flow as one so I'm cheating a bit



Cable Box (GOOD AM era), same style as the album but better than almost all of it. crazy to me that this was a loosie



Look at You (GOOD AM era). Earl and Kevin Gates features, Alchemist production, this song is cocaine to my ears



Butterflies (TDF era). only leak from this era I've really liked, shit's just nice as hell



Completely Transparent. not actually a leak but it just randomly dropped in 2018 and Mac is listed as a feature so no-one knows about it. one of his most haunting and powerful songs imo



One and Only (Circles era). first confirmation we got that there was a third album in this trilogy that was going to be hip-hop oriented. Programs-style, trappy, absolute banger



Came Alone (Circles era). riding the recency bias wave with this one but it's like the exact halfway point between Swimming and Circles. so good

Doing the Lord’s dirty work of spreading all the content he wanted to keep private. nice!

Absolutely true but I'm not gonna feel like shit about listening to songs I've never heard from one of my favorite artists of all time who I know isn't going to be able to make new music ever again

I feel that. The blame rests on the leakers, for the most part, for not respecting an artist’s intellectual property, even if he’s dead.

But I don’t think spreading it around is all that cool either. Facilitates the actions of the thieves. Not illegal, but still not cool.

pretty sure carti hype is still super high

It’s super demotivating for most artists to have your tracks leaked. Like what’s the point of putting your full effort and time towards a song if some fucker just leaks some awful audio rip. Look at Jai Paul’s story.

And obviously it’s not gonna demotivate Mac (RIP) but the fact he’s dead makes it even worse. An artist’s private work shouldn’t be Open Season just because they aren’t around to stop you. It’s all about respect.

always had a tough time getting into mac b/c i think i was still trying to view him through a rap prism but have begun enjoying his last three albums a lot, he carved out a really interesting niche for himself
