Yeah much like every album he's dropped the last decade this one grew off me on second and third listens. Not awful, just more average disposable shit.

I’m not saying it’s okay, and em is totally immature for it (which is nothing new) but what I’m trying to say I’m pretty sure he’s just saying the slur purely for shock value, as he does with a lot of shit. He’s been doing it his entire career.
I don’t really listen to him anymore so I’m not gonna defend him too hard but that’s just my two cents.

I agree, he is saying the word for shock value and because he grew up with the word being associated just as a negative pejorative in general and not specifically targeting homosexuals, but that's no excuse whatsoever for his continued use of the word in 2018 or 2019 or 2020. He knows god damn well what the word means to most who use it, he would never use the N word despite it's free use as a catch-all noun in the hip hop community because he knows the context of hatred that comes with a white man saying that word, but he's okay with saying "faggot" because there isn't the same kind of societal pressure or backlash for a hip hop artist saying that. And that's some fuckin' ironic bullshit right there. I honestly didn't think much about Em's continued use of the word until this conversation started, but now that I am thinking about it, fuck him. That absolutely makes him a homophobe, whether he "tolerates" their existence or not.
Besides didn't Elton stop talking to his ass a decade ago?

Actually you can find em saying the n word on stage first few years, usually when hed guest on other tracks. In terms of eminem in 2020 being a homophobe for calling tyler a slur, tylers literally been banned from the uk for his own homophobic and misogynistic lyrics.
|

how does that affect Eminem's homophobia

Remember when Kendrick invited that white guy up on stage to rap one of his songs and then gave him shit for saying one of the lyrics out loud because it had the n word in it? Good times

If this is above a 2 I'd be damn surprised.
Em should have just called it quits after Eminem Show.

It doesn't, i just think no one involved actually cared about the lyric and people flipping their shit over anothers name-calling are wasting energy. Kamakazi wouldve still sucked regardless

stepdad is a pile of shit.

you guys are literally excusing homophobia by saying other people are also homophobic, you get that right?
"shock value" like what's that change?
"Remember when Kendrick invited that white guy up on stage to rap one of his songs and then gave him shit for saying one of the lyrics out loud because it had the n word in it? Good times"
that situation is an entirely different discourse though

Only mentioned it because it came to mind when I read this "Actually you can find em saying the n word on stage first few years"

I never said it was okay, my point is i dont really care about one alleged celebrity homophobe going after another, i get more pissed off at my family and friends than eminem.
edit : i will say it was shitty bar tho and any backlash ultimately undermined the entire album. but in context of eminem, 'without me' played on the radio like a hundred times a day when i was 10 and no one gave a fuck, hell i've heard it during a elementary catholic school dance.

"Darkness" is a good track. The rest mostly is just very, very boring.

I actually found Kamikaze rather enjoyable, but skimming through this, it just seemed like a big pile of hogwash like nearly everything else hes released since Eminem Show. Not sure if I really want to devote an hour or whatever to hearing this. But I guess if I managed to sit through Revival a few times to slap a 1 on it, I could probably sit through this too.

wtf emnem posted cringe

It's incredible to me that Eminem still has moments of brilliant self-awareness (see Bad Guy, a few bars off of Kamikaze) and yet at the same time he just trudges on with his bullshit and indulges in his delusions to the point where you wonder how he ever had the aforementioned moments at all.

Im honestly kind of confused that this is getting a worse reception than Kamikaze
Im guessing it helps that Kamikaze was coming right after one of the worst albums recorded by humans so it sounded like genius relatively

The production and the writing is so much tighter and Eminem's choice of flows hasn't sounded this good since Eminem Show
I mean it's still got ton of classic Eminem Cringe™ but that's a given by now
