I still don't know what neck means but I get afraid to ask because then I'll look uncool
Edit: should have asked this near the end of the page so I could quickly page break the answer and no one would know

"Your biases are abundantly clear, you seem to have an agenda against a genre that you have relatively little experience with, by your own admission"
Idk why people act like you need a phd in metal to have an opinion on a genre. I love a lot of subgenres of metal, I just think death metal is plagued by these homogeneous sounding bands. Idk how people don't get bored out of their minds listening to this.

Hmmm ever notice how stuff you don't spend a lot of time with often sounds the same? I do.

it’s as if variation isn’t part of the reason why people like it all

Seriously though, I could see that stance if we were talking about, like, Torture Rack or Cerebral rot. But... Blood Incantation????

Torture Rack and Cerebral Rot both fuck btw m/

Fair enough, I like some variety. I don't mind homogeneous albums if I'm cleaning or doing something else, or certain ambient albums if I'm just trying to get lost in thought, but music like this is clearly made for active listening. Not into the "look how fast I can solo brah" stuff here and after like 20 mins it just seems like I've been playing the same 30 seconds over and over again
|
| |
Happens to me all the time regardless of genre. It's especially difficult if there's no chorus or repeating phrase or riff or luck or whatever. Nothing I can latch into and have it drilled into my head that this chorus or whatever does with this song and now I can identify it anywhere and anytime without looking

Honest question: Is that what you think this is?

bloc I imagine you're being sarcastic but I do agree with some of that. Without a hook or melody or cool build or interesting atmosphere idk what the point is.
|
| |
I wasn't being sarcastic at all. It's a genuine issue I have with almost all music that fits my description. Doesn't mean I don't like the music or genre, but the tradeoff is that I usually have to be in the mood to listen to it. I def sympathize with what you were getting at

gyro we all know you don’t metal much or have that heavily honed appreciation. Remember that death metal isn’t the most “intellectual” genre, but I’ll be damned if I didn’t feel that the energy and hooks given off is all that I’d need. It can be fun just on record, if the band can perform well live like these guys can they’ll receive more acclaim and I’ll go barbaric for fun. dm fans are supportive for the most part cuz it doesn’t take much to win them over. but they can recognise if the dm is much more than old school and tech then that’s where you see bands like Obliteration switching it up slightly and survive obscurity. I’ve been listening to dm for years so I’m used to filtering out what’s good and what’s not. What gets brought up in sites like this is usually good cuz they have something going for them that makes them distinct for the genre. This record got stupid hype but for good reason and they deserve it.
