It's Insomnium and it's magnificent, I understand all the complaints about this album but I myself couldn't ask for more.

pale morning star and the t/t are fucking good. def amongst my favorite songs of the year. twilight trails also stood out to me
but the rest just sounds like insomnium on autopilot
also this is 1 hour long, winter's gate did a lotttttt more with 20 less minutes

I gave this album a 3 after 2 listens, this is not right. I figured out why I did and why many others (insomnium fans) might think the same. Each Insomnium album had me in awe absolute awe around 2010 when I discovered them, in a world where mdm was becoming stale I discovered Insomnium and gave each album an intense listen they hit my soul with everything I wanted to hear. Across the dark followed by one for sorrow showed slight change in sound but still unmistakably insomnium. With a lineup change shadows and winter's gate dropped and I couldn't be happier with the results, these guys in my opinion have released everything they have to offer and it's been magnificent. Going into this album especially after hearing Ville is focusing less on the music or at least touring, I had convinced myself this album would mark a departure of the song writing I'm used to. It was, I wanted more of what I had already been given and while heart like a grave is exactly that, this mindset had made me think that it was somehow inferior. Instead of embracing all that it was I was picking it apart for what it wasn't. Listening more intently I have realized I absolutely love the songs, and while I love the older albums more for what they mean to me and how they effected me personally and changed my perception of mdm, with time heart like a grave has found its own personality and instead of comparing it with the past, it allows me to embrace the future. Long live insomnium m/ - 4.0.
