"I love reviews like this where the summary is "buttfuck inspiration or whatever inspires band's best album since middling as fuck album only two or three albums ago in their discography""

haha right, it's not exactly high praise.

Oeh really digging the acoustics in the second half of Heart in Hand and that break in Next of Kin. I'm a sucker for well played acoustic guitars.

Yeah stuff like the ending of Universal Truth get me going so much more than the slightly over-the-top nature of the rest of some of these songs, especially in the vocal department.

Owh Yes yes yes. The Garroter is my jam y'all. Dark piano, sweet jazz shuffle, some actual storytelling vibes going on. Gimme more of that please.

Yeah at a pretty confident 4/5 after first listen. Def better then PC and Sorceress, def worse than Watershed and pretty much everything that came before. Might be on par with Heritage for me idk yet.

First impression: there's definitely some twaddle in here, but I like Universal Truth so that's something - it gives me old Opeth vibes with the light/dark, soft/heavy contrasts. Opening salvo of the intro, Divinity + Heart in Hand is decent enough.

Some of the guitars still sound neutered to me and despite all the weird tangents there's a few typical prog rock-isms that are off-putting. Charlatan was bizarre to say the least, I might struggle with that one.

Overall, interested to hear again and no real idea where this will end up tbh.

There are definitely vibes here that throw back to those contrasts from classic Opeth, but the "prog" part of their sound on this record especially, is uninteresting and feels aimless. I think that Heritage did it in a much more enjoyable way, and was much more interesting sonically.

It's not bad, has its moments.

heart in hand, next of kin, universal truth and thegarroter are good tracks.

I need to listen to it a couple more times.

Charlatan is twistly good....need to sink in a bit more...curious enough this rev's rate match the current AVG...and I aim for a 3.5 here...much better than all my 3s so....
