This is the album I listened to the most this year. For me it increased the atmosphere heavily, since I feel that the harsh vocals on the original are kind of goofy.
And the instruments are so much clearer...I understand why people dislike this, bhut for me this is an epic release and probably my favorite prog metal of all-time.

"Yikes the lack of the harsh vocals made me dislike this more than I thought. I otherwise like the mix just as much as the old, but the coat of paint is refreshing. But the only reason this won't be my new default version to listen to is the lack of the harsh vox."
yeah it's really weird, I agree with a lot of people that the original harsh vocals are a little overdone/slightly cringe at times, yet I like the album more with them there.
I think they add some needed busy-ness at points, and when you take them out some songs feel lacking and probably need some sort of drum/guitar accents put in their place. Or something. Also possible that it's just what I'm used to and I'm irrevocably biased

I've heard everything this band has released, including the Portal tapes. Most of it's really good. I love Focus but it's a pretty different vibe than this. The only other thing really like this in their discog is CBA.
Will check that album Alexis.

Tried a bunch of these albums, unfortunately none of them really kept me interested for very long:/
Thanks anyways!
I think the drumming, guitar/vocal melodies are just really top-tier here. Shame Sean and Paul aren't playing together anymore.
