Found the references I was looking for. So obviously their last album is called Furnaces of Palingenesia. Palingenesia merely means "rebirth" and has a fair amount of history over hundreds of years, but in the twentieth century to now it has been used predominantly in fascist rhetoric, like around national "rebirth" etc. That's what it's associated with now. They have some merch featuring an Irminsul, which isn't inherently bad because it mostly just relates to German paganism, but since there's a very clear pattern of NSBM bands having an obsession with pagan practices and interacting with pagan groups that double as neo-nazi groups, in addition to their well known ties to Mikko Aspa, who is a plain out and about nazi, it amounts to a lot of red flags.
Yes, you have to dig for some of these clues because these bands try to hide their skeletons. Sorry. If it were just one of these things then I wouldn't care, but shit adds up.

but yeah I ultimately hold the exact same stance as Spirit

you can also associate "Furnaces of Palingenesia" as an indirect reference to the holocaust. meaning that jews go to the ovens/furnaces and the nation is cleansed and reborn. Hardly an accident.
Also Mikko Aspa seems to have a pedophilia themed noise project. Hmm

so are slayer nazis because they have songs about the holocaust? their guitarst collected nazi memorabilia and they have merch thats heavily based on nazi imagery?

lame question, there's a distinct difference between collecting nazi memorabilia and supporting nazi causes
|
| |
of course its a lame question. just as lame as reading into a song name "Furnaces of Palingenesia" means the band wants to see jews burn....

Consensus seems to give them a pass since it's pretty clearly just edgy lyrical topics. They don't seem to go around pushing any nazi views outside of just music topics and their topics vary quite a lot outside nazi stuff. When they sing about nazis it's very plain and in your face, seeming to be just a character or perspective, rather than sketchy fucking dogwhistles and obscure imagery.
I think Jeff Hanneman is the only one that collected nazi memorabilia but I don't know his reasons and he's dead anyway. Who cares?

"just as lame as reading into a song name "Furnaces of Palingenesia" means the band wants to see jews burn...."
Except that's a very reasonable line to draw. They have a neo-nazi doing vocals on their albums after all.

so everyone who acts under Roman Polanski supports sex with kids?

"I know why people misinterpret it – it's because they get this knee–jerk reaction to it. When they read the lyrics, there's nothing I put in the lyrics that says necessarily he was a bad man, because to me – well, isn't that obvious? I shouldn't have to tell you that."
Hanneman about Angel Of Death...Still waiting for the dudes in Mgla and Deathspell to say something about their situation

when asked about associations with Aspa, DsO just said some shit about being totally opposed ideologically and that they'd kill each other if they talked about their beliefs, but still strangely justifying working with him for years. Weak ass excuse.
"so everyone who acts under Roman Polanski supports sex with kids?"
You probably shouldn't work under him morally, but it's big movie business and people will take the big pay check I guess.

no, they just financially support his ability to do so

I think just because you collaborate with someone doesn't mean you support their beliefs. Faust from Emperor killed a homosexual in cold blood, yet he still works on loads of stuff with other bands. I doubt they all follow his idology, whatever the hell it is

you're absolutely right, collaborating with someone doesn't mean you support their beliefs -- just their bank account and lifestyle, which enables them to keep doing potentially deplorable things

again, im sure they want to collab again because he is a shit hot drummer and will probably make better music as a result of him being back in the band

This works better when the political beliefs you're talking about aren't nazis lol. Again, a conservative and a liberal can be buddies, but nazis are not just a short walk across the political aisle.
People do criticize musicians for working with Faust, but I generally treat prison as rehabilitative and he did his time so whatever. I haven't followed his career much since getting out of prison tho so who knows.

so where does it stop? i imagine he gets royalties from his albums. should the record companies be looked down apon now? they sell that shit. should spotify remove his work? amazon stop its sales?

Harder to do that since it's just capitalism being capitalism, these aren't individuals that are all that concerned with morality, they want to make a buck. Protest em if you want I guess.
