I'm with ya Uzumazi, I'm not really acclimatised to bm vocals either. Getting on okay with these though. It's a little stretching but this rips enough for me to persevere. This might be my gateway bm record, I've been a lot more open to checking things out with bm tags since getting into this.

If anything, I might be more lenient with other blackgaze bands if I can get used to these vocals. BM still has too sordid a legacy, whether true or not, for me to hand them a pass in my book. Doesn't exactly jive with my beliefs, you know?

Huh, didn't imagine this might be a potential 'gateway' of sorts, but I suppose it's possible. This isn't fully in black metal, but it's certainly a greater commitment to it compared to their prior works. Their variance in melody and general tonality set them apart from the crowd.

I've never knowingly listened to blackgaze, it's on the list for next year (or the one after, lots to get through). Being familiar with black metal and shoegaze separately, as well as post metal, I imagine this may contain some similar elements, is this a correct assumption?

They bear similarities, that's a fair statement to make. The difference here is the production is much clearer and not as haze-infused as blackgaze can be. I'd also say they still imbue a dosage of technicality and have a much more noted reliance on melody.

Interesting, makes sense. I'm actually kind of excited for my eventual blackgaze journey, which is weird because 12-18 months ago I was reluctant to dive in. Gotten more into atmo-BM and blackened stuff in general, plus given how much I dig post-metal (sometimes with blackened elements), I definitely have a more optimistic view of what it may entail, hence moving it 'up' a few spots on my never-ending 'check this genre' crusade.
Apologies for going off on a bit of a tangent there.

I like the sound of where Demon's listening habits may end up in the near future. If it helps try and make comparisons between this and Altar of Plagues for example.

Nice tip, it'll give me an excuse to revisit Teethed Glory & Injury.

Is this any in that vein?!

There's comparisons to be made but purists will say no. Personally I'm on record for thinking "Burnt Year" when listening to this.

Altar of Plagues are decidedly more black metal in their approach, but I can see where similarities could be drawn.

K, I think I'm gonna stand by my rating and leave it at that. Absolutely adore the post-metal instrumentation, but it's still gonna take some time to get used to the vocals. My tolerance is coming along slowly lol.

It'll just keep growing, Uzu. There's no escape.

Oh, don't worry, I'll come back to it from time to time. I'm just comfortable with my current ranking of it.
Sidenote, but you should check out a band called Wills Dissolve, and their album "The Heavens Are Not On Fire". Some good doom/death/prog metal that might be up your alley.

That may be misleading, ok just checked... it’s DEFINITELY misleading, haha.
I love this, beautiful melodies, tense atmospheric passages, great musicianship with restraint. Goes hard at times as well, the Enshrined/Headstones combo is definitely becoming one of the favourite things I’ve heard all year.
