Upon re-listening to Reclaimer, yup it far out classes this one in terms of peaks and high points, there is no part on Melancholy that quite makes me go (holy shit how did someone even think of this), but the death metal elements gives Melancholy a fighting chance as well

I think I'm somewhere between a 3.5 and a 4, I don't think it is better than Reclaimer. It's a great solid release, but Reclaimer was a masterpiece.

also why did they have to have the "clean-ish" chorus for Dirge AND Chthonic, easily the worst point of the album for me, and yeah these "clean-ish" parts I have to agree they go on too long, to the point where they do start to make me cringe, if only just a little, but I still cringe, which isn't good

Agreed dude, the lowest point of Reclaimer I feel is The Catacombs, but the thrash type bit at 1:24 with the piano in the background is fucking perfection so it make me forget all the gripes I had with the song lol

I think this is more consistent in quality than Reclaimer but yeah, Reclaimer's high points are better than anything on this, and it's a more fun album in general. The Tartarus Impalement is still their best song by a fair bit imo. If Mystic Abyss had vocals it might have given it a run for its money but as it stands, nah.

I feel I enjoy this one more from beginning to end compared to Reclaimer, though Reclaimer has high highs but also lows. This just sounds consistently better imo

The drum sound is shit, yeah. Like most deathcore and modern metal with shiny production.

Album is catchy, the hype is understandable. I would trade the Linkin Park-esque vocals for other kind of cleans, but it's obviously a personal opinion.

Good jam
