Opening line was epic. I'll assume the remaining 10000 words are of similar quality.

I do the same thing, so I'm not sure how valid it is as a criticism, but I think you definitley use more words than you need to -- clarity is good and great and something most people (me) suck at, but I think there is also a risk of over-explaining. I'm not sure, for example, how much that puzzle analogy really clarifies the point you're trying to make. It might endear the reader to the author a bit, and I get that its used to justify a seemingly small aspect marring your enjoyment of an otherwise competent album; but you end up representing the vocals as a kind of stain upon the rest of the album, as opposed to a missing component, so the analogy feels a bit ham-fisted to me. There's also nothing wrong with loving words -- but I think some of this is definitely overwrought. Your expression at times distances the reader from the point, I think -- I'm cautious of making this point, cause I don't wanna sound prescriptive, but I think the overuse of adjectives kinda drags things down. The sentences feel too heavy at points because of them and I think the occassional short, snappy sentence works better than a total reiteration of a point already made. If that makes sense -- I dunno.

I might be projecting. What I mentioned are definitely the biggest flaws with my writing, too.

never been a fan of their vocals but i loved the abstract style of presents, the vocals didn't bother me at all. this is just boring so far and sounds crazy compressed

Lyrically and musically, they've always been great. I should check this out soon but the vocals on Presents weren't great.

I like the style. Thought it helped them stand out. But the performance here feels like a neutered version of Presents. Maybe it's the production, I don't know.

Yeah, I take no issues with the instruments here. If this were instrumental or had a different vocal performance, it could be an easy 3.5-4.0, whether that performance be clean or harsh. Both styles could work.
