I joined 2015 and felt like there was kind of an upsurge in activity between 2016 and 2017 that has since declined, but again that’s when I myself was most active so perhaps that’s why I feel that way. But I also feel like I was more active because there was more activity in general. The new National has had me commenting much more than usual lately over this past week though!

I've been on here since I was in grade 9 (2009-10) and I think activity has steadily declined since then. But I don't think it's the end of the world.

Oh wow I thought you were newer. Did you get a comment wipe at some point or just not a frequent commenter?

i seem to kill a lot of threads i comment in so it's probably my fault

I feel like the site peaked in 2010 yeah
There have been little peaks and valleys since then but in general I think it's pretty empty around these parts lately

It's a shame, I really like how this site sets everything up. Especially how there's an emphasis on album threads, and each user has the score tied to their profile so you know where they stand in a discussion. I think a main page redesign, and some interface overhaul could bring a lot of fresh faces, which the site deserves imo, but I guess idk how realistic that is. Site looks a little aged lol.

I’ve always loved Sput as it is, the perfect amount of activity/users for me. Enough that I can usually have a good discussion when I want to but not too much that I can’t keep track of users. Realistically I have a small network of maybe 20 users I actually chat with consistently with (if you check my shoutbox history it’s pretty clear who they are lol), the rest is bonus.

Same here. I've gotten used to the idea of it being a small community. However, if mx rose from the dead and overhauled the site with an updated scheme and additional features, I'd be happier than a fly on shit.

I like having a place where I can put my hot takes and no one knows who I am. I joined in like 2011 or 2012. Damn it’s crazy if you have 16000 comments in 4 years lol. I thought I used this quite a bit

Sput has so few active users that it feels like a Facebook group to me. There's only about 40-50 of us who keep up to date with the indie stuff (I rarely interact with the metalhead / pop punk communities).

"There's only about 40-50 of us who keep up to date with the indie stuff (I rarely interact with the metalhead / pop punk communities)"
There's still a fair amount of cross-pollination between the various spheres of the site though, I'd say I post in MM/Arcade Fire-type threads about as much as I post in grind threads.
a year or so ago I tallied up all the semi-regular users on the site for shits and gigs and we were at a little over 100... it's definitely gone down a bit since then (This was before Snide went MIA and Aiwaz got banned) but not too drastically I don't think.

yea i’d guess about 100 sitewide, would like to know how many without the metalheads

I'd say there are 20 or so active users I have talked to a lot, 50-60 active users I know relatively well in terms of knowing/reading their posts/lists/reviews, another 100 or so I 'recognise the name/avatar'
Just over two hundred active users would be my guess - at least half of which love the metal
Shame there is no 'friend' button so someone could count them. Maybe someone 'upstairs' knows how many there are? - probably not.

I also enjoy having a place where I can archive my music and see how it changes over time. I have way more ratings on here than rym since I was here first but it’s amazing at how this site has me listening to so many things I’d never have thought I’d try. When I got here I think I was listening to mostly post-hardcore and now I can’t tell you a single band in that genre (of course it was definitely a fad and I don’t think many are keeping it alive). And now I’m more indie/shoegaze/post-rock. But I’ll definitely dabble in just about anything.

As outdated as this site is at least it's better looking than RYM. At least on here you don't have to decide which limited edition vinyl pressing you're trying to rate when you rate an album haha

the charts here are a joke compared to rym though. we don’t even have a 2019 chart ffs
