@cageofman, it’s a smooth listen. Just delete this is our house from the playlist. It sticks out painfully.
I wonder, since this is our house was released first and nothing else on the album sucks as bad - do you think that In Flames may have been self-aware that it’s a trash song and released it first just to be like jk jk afterwards? Or perhaps they thought it was legitimately a good track which might not surprise me considering Anders seems a bit delusional, evident in his interview statements.
Personally, I’ve jumped back and forth for the last few days. This album feels (not so much sounds) a lot like clayman is some sense to me for some reason. So I decided to compare a bit. Clayman obviously crushes but I wanted to dig in a bit and I personally think that Anders has really improved vocally (sure) but has lost touch or rather disconnected from the organic sounds you’ll hear throughout clayman. This as in my opinion and from what I’ve observed in his interviews deluded Anders into beliving his abilities are better now and therefore the music must be better, right? No, the production on Clayman was awesome and felt raw but at the same time structured. This just feels insanely structured, which isn’t a negative thing but you lose the sense of (purpose) how In Flames...felt. They felt like controlled chaos and it felt good. Personally I believe that feeling can still be achieved, ditch their producer and bring Anders back to earth...not likely to happen though.
Anyway, was a fun few days and analysis. Just thought I’d share.

Finally got around to listening to this. First 4 tracks were not bad, and then it went downhill very fast - "Follow Me" is atrocious, as is every ballad they've written for this album. The most exciting moment for me was when Anders screamed the final chorus to "In This Life", breaking the monotonous pattern of faux-heavy verses and stadium rock chorus. And that song blows as well.
At best it's predictably frustrating, and at it's worst it's infuriatingly awful.

"sophisticated yet unpredictable guitarwork" its literally the same formula they've been using since 2008 (which is a less impressive version of what jesper did in come clarity) but on autopilot
