I'll say this, the amount of repetition on "Stay With Me" is pretty iffy overall.

the "better" lyrics are really generic and vague, but in songs like follow me, this is our house, we will remember they are straight out laughable, i honestly dont think ive ever heard worse lyrics in my entire life. it actually seems like something a 10 year old non native english speaker that listens to nickelback would write

go to an in flames show now and you'll suddenly understand the reasoning for the lyrics

i'll give you this is our house, and follow me has some awkward lines ("away from the letdown") but i didn't really notice anything off about we will remember tbh

it's nothing immensely thought-provoking, but there's plenty of newer In Flames songs that could easily work on my playlist.

I dont like to use the phrase selling out but when it's so blatantly tryhard like this album I just can't help it

"Sellout" would probably apply more to the last two albums tbh

"some awkward lines" dude literally every single line on that song is the biggest cliche ever in music........ my favorite bit is "From ashes, you will rise, I'll walk a thousand miles/You know I never give up, just follow me, follow me"
really just read through it...............
You say you want it all
But with the demons in your head, you can't see straight
But give me a chance to be the light
To guide you through and be your eyes
The darkness in your soul always a part of you
I'll be by your side, just follow me, follow me
Follow me, don't be afraid
I will lead you to a better place
Free from the sorrows, away from the letdowns
You will find a home
I never thought it would come to this
What are you waiting for?
I forgave myself for my mistakes
Why are you holding on?
From ashes, you will rise, I'll walk a thousand miles
You know I never give up, just follow me, follow me

It's more apparent on those two than it is here, while there's some radio-friendly tendencies I don't expect to hear songs like I Am Above on the radio. With Eyes Wide Open is closer to what I expect to hear there.

They sold out almost 20 years ago. Selling out doesn't automatically mean releasing bad music, they coasted on decent wider appeal material for like 10 years
Edit: Yes, before anyone tries to argue otherwise, Reroute to Remain is a sellout album. It's also a hard 4

When most people call an album a sellout, it's intended as an insult (because it honestly is one, selling out is an insult to integrity anyway), but I digress.

Clayman could be called a sellout yet I have that thing 5'd lol
|

@Eak: Wouldn't have thought of it that way considering how strong this thing starts.
|

I see people claim Clayman is a sellout record and it's definitely a shift to an easier sound, but all it was was a change from melodic death metal to what we would now call melodeath (in the genre spergiest terms these are different). The difference between Colony to Clayman is way smaller than Clayman to Reroute.

Agreed, Reroute is really where they shifted a lot. I see Clayman more as less an album where they made numerous albums with the same sound (Whoracle and Colony are essentially the same sound through and through, whch isn't a bad thing at all) and they just wanted to progress their sound and not make the same record for the 3rd album in a row. Reroute is where they started playing with the fundamental sound of the band.
