He’s quite restrained here to be honest, albums their best for while.

LaBrie is honestly less annoying to me in studio than other "operatic" esque singers, ala Rob Halford. He blows hard live though. Only time LaBrie gets grating is on some of those high notes.

Yeah he sounds really good on this. I also dig how even the keyboards kinda take a back seat. Not much backing track shit either.

Yeah Rudess is restrained on this

I wish Rudess would use organic instruments more often. An actual Hammond Organ, piano, mellotron, etc.

Agreed, the entire song is super accessible from every angle. And there's a guitar tab already for it mwahahaha

"A Change of Seasons is not that good and they have like 10 better long songs, thanks"

I love you Rowbro but that's the worst opinion I've read here this year, good lord.

Man, I love Dream Theater, and every album they’ve put out in the past 10-12 years has sparks of brilliance, but I never really enjoyed listening to them start to finish (Black Clouds and Silver Linings being the exception, really love that album). Too damn draining to sit through countless long wankery sessions, I had to enjoy them in small bites.

But damn, this album is a completely different delivery, with the same musical brilliance Dream Theater has always had. I’m really loving this, and particularly glad these dudes haven’t phoned it in yet.

Best album since Octavarium, perhaps even better.

So far I have enjoyed every little bit of what I've heard! Something I wasn't sure I would be saying about a new Dream Theater album after their previous release...
