Emperor's "In the Nightside Eclipse" is pushing the limits of what I can deal with production-wise. I can deal with noisy productions better than "muddy" ones, and CoF's debut has one of those muddy sounds.

Yeah, I've read a few comments that the next album is supposed to go further back to their roots. One can hope that they've given up on the metalcore influence.

I wouldn't really say they've had a metalcore influence at all. Thornography had a few alternative metal influences with Foetus of a New Day Kicking and obviously Temptation was very similar to some of the mainstream metal you hear out there. But yeah if they completely return to the gothic black metal style of the early albums then I'll be very happy. If not then I'll most likely still love it anyways, but I'll be disappointed. I've been wanting them to return to this style ever since I really started getting into them about 4 years ago.

I say "metalcore" only because because Dani started talking about how much he loved Killswitch Engage after "Midian" and then we ended up with multiple albums that were way too riffy without any of the gothic black metal style that made them any good. I blame Killswitch Engage.

Haha well even though I still love the albums after Midian I'll blame Killswitch Engage for taking them out of the gothic black metal style. Godspeed kind of brought them back to that style thankfully. I still call the albums after Midian black metal, but I use that term loosely. Probably more along the lines of just extreme metal.

I'm not real big on using specific genres anyway. Black metal or extreme metal - all I know is that they took out the damn keyboards and guitar melodies.

Yeah exactly. I don't understand why they took out all the grandiose keyboards and all the symphonic arrangements that made their early albums so great. I know they don't like to do the same album twice and they like to switch their style up, but they really wouldn't have lost so many fans if they would've just stuck to the things that made them great. Doesn't matter to me though because I'll love whatever they put out so I really don't care haha.

I'm finally giving them a chance again after their last album. If it had been crap too, then I would have probably just given up. So, when their new one comes out we can expect a glowing "5" review instantly?

Oh no dude there will be no automatic 5 review. Firstly because I suck at reviewing and secondly I'm not a stupid noob anymore. I learned my lesson when I joined this site lol. If it goes back to this kind of style though you'll probably see at least a 4.5 from me.

It'd be nice to see Dani use some of his old vocal stylings.

I'll probably do a staff review of it - maybe. It will have to be really good or really bad, otherwise I probably won't.

If it's good, it'll be cool to see a staff review of it considering most of sputnik totally underrates Cradle.

I agree Spirit. The thing is he's almost 40 years old and I doubt he can do any of the extremely high pitched shrieks that he does on this album. I wouldn't mind him giving it a shot though. And yeah Willie you might as well do one even if you only like it a little bit. I mean we're probably gonna have people tearing it to shreds just because it's Cradle so it would be nice to see you review even if you only kind of like it.

I dunno, man. Dirge Inferno reeked of metalcore mediocrity

I really don't think it did. It was definitely more mainstream, but it didn't really sound like metalcore to me at all.
