"Did the band really consider this more of an Alex Turner solo album? That's interesting. According to Wikipedia, Turner wrote the whole thing himself so I guess it basically is."
Turner wrote every single one of their albums himself. No, this actually was never considered for a solo record, someone started a stupid rumor by misinterpreting a Mojo article, where Turner said that he wasn't quite sure if this was a Monkeys album or "something else", so he invited Jamie Cook to his place to write some guitar parts, and it was Jamie's enthusiasm about the new sound that convinced him and everyone else in the band that this was definitely an Arctic Monkeys record. That was a good half a year before they even entered studio last September, so it really was always only gonna be an AM record, and never seriously considered for a solo release.

Turner didn't wrote all the music and lyrics to any of their albums since the debut, just the lyrics.

He didn't write all of the music on here too. Just the basic chord progressions around which the songs are built. Same as he's always done.

Wikipedia says differently, but I know it isn't always accurate so idk

Oh wow, this is a mixed bag of opinions. Props to Arctic Monkeys for the near-flat bar chart. Listening now, I'm liking the second track- scratch that, it got boring about halfway through. I'm not liking this that much... maybe it'll pick up?

A few interesting albums coming out around this time, but I'll have to get to them later, I've literally had no desire to listen to anything other than this. That's only really happened twice more to me this whole decade, with QOTSA's LC, and 22, A Million by Bon Iver.
Everything about this album is somehow making me very happy, having so much fun with it.

The expected trend for this band was to get even popier than AM and they surprised everyone with this turn...I give them that and eventually a relisten ;)

"I made the mistake of rating this before I finished the album"
Every time I do this, it jinxes my enjoyment or something and I end up lowering my score as soon as the album finishes haha

Never ever rate something on one listen unless right at the core of your soul you just ‘know’

"Yea Like Clockwork is one of my favorite modern rock albums"
Yea Like Clockwork is my favorite album... like ever
|
| |
ahem...
call me crazy, but was this album ever even announced in advance? I was checking up on how the AMs were doing literally just a couple months ago, and they were still recorded as officially being "On Hiatus", with no news/announcements AT ALL about a potential new album in the works. Did it really come out of nowhere?
anyone?
