Damn RYM bolded this shit blue already
|
| |
when are the new rym sites dropping btw
i was in some open beta last year i think
|
| |
Haven't heard any news on it in a while. I kinda like the way the site is already tbh. Maybe a couple modern tweaks would be enough, like a "search as you type" kinda of thing.

What does that bolded blue thing mean then bloc?
|

Didn't we talk about this a few months ago?
On RYM, albums bolded in blue mean they are among the top 10k releases of all time (not just albums, but EPs, compilations, everything) so that is a pretty big deal. I am not exactly sure how their algorithm works though, I think it is a balance between the rating and the number of votes. But every now and then, it confuses me.
In the case of this album it's weird because this album on RYM currently has a respectable score of 3.69, but with just 243 votes. It's weird because the vote count is still so low, yet it has bolded blue status.
Another example is Muse - Absolution. That album has just a measly 3.49 average, but it has over 10k votes so it gets the bold status. It's a matter of balance between average rating and voting count.
In the end, I was finally able to listen to this album and I liked it a lot. It earns a 4 from me.

this wont last as a bold on RYM... almost nothing metal ever does. too many people downvote charting metal there. factor that in with how metalheads cant agree on fucking anything
that and I believe its top 5000

I can't take RYM seriously on anything. It's mostly just good for comparing albums by a single band in my experience.

The only thing better about rym imo is the genre specification, everything else I vastly prefer Sput for

RYM users tend to be pretty harsh towards metal, but on the other hand, metal is overrated on Sputnik. Along with a few other genres that arbitrarily gets extremely inflated scores compared to rym.
@bloc
The bolding of albums on rym is always interesting. I think they lowered the ceiling for when an album gets bolded on Sonemic, but now that I check, there are no albums bolded there :P
I've also seen albums that are supposedly top 10k but without bolded. A large amount of ratings is usually the way to go to get an album bolded, as you stated. My favorite example is Yeezus.

"RYM users tend to be pretty harsh towards metal"
rym users are fucking retarded
|

Yeah but I definitely prefer it as platform to track ratings, personally.
