As much as I love it, Jo might be my least favourite too. I think its charm lies in its lyrics and vocal delivery, however: you can almost here her smile in lines like "And you built the birds' houses/ To see if it helped at all".

You may be right about that!

And as long as we're making obscure comparisons to other female singer songwriters that don't really relate, I've been getting a Regina Spektor vibe from "Oom Sha La La" and "Worth It" lately

Everyone should check the EP too, it's almost as good as this and the t/t is killer

What the hell about this is even remotely close to blues? This is way closer to alt/indie rock than that. In fact I’d almost argue this is as much an indie rock album as a folk one.

How is this indie rock? Because there's a couple electric guitars?

Worth It, God Song and Oom Sha La La are all basically indie rock/slowcore. The songwriting on those of is definitely more rockish than it is folkish. It’s probaly a stretch to say this is as much rock as folk but there’s definitely a lot of rock here too. RYM agrees, indie rock has been unanimously voted as a secondary genre there.

Egh I guess I could see that, but alt rock idk. I feel like there's too much overlap in people's perceptions between the genres these days

I’d prefer indie rock to alt rock on this, but indie is a subgenre of alt, so it's not totally absurd.

I really can't decide between a 3 and a 3.5 for this.

It just seems very slight overall, though 'Show You a Body' and 'God Song' have a bit of heft...but then you realise Joanna Newsom released THREE DISCS of this sort of thing in the form of 'Have One on Me'.

I dunno.
