the apparent lack of buzz for her new one is pretty lame

It’s quite good but not as good as this I’d say. Some real stunners for sure but a couple that are just pretty standard for her.

agreed, we were pretty spoiled with this one and The Highwomen! I own both of those on Vinyl :] just have a soft spot for her and a bit of a hypocrite since I'd like to see 20+ ratings by now despite being indecisive about mine lol
my favorite track might still be "Right on Time".. still finding myself more drawn to that one even after hearing the entire thing but some other tracks are growing steadily

She did that one on Fallon and it was great. It’s pretty much designed for the audience to applaud at the end of every chorus lol

The new one is very good. Maybe the initial hype will eventually wear off, but right now it's all I want to listen to. You and Me on the Rock is amazing.

Yeah one of my favorites too. The first time she sings “I don’t need their money baby” I melt

ah, a Sowing 4.5 for the new Brandi Carlile (and inevitable incoming review). everything feels right in the world again
@Chan, I'll be checking her performance on Fallon.. that sounds awesome

sneakily, Sowing drops his score down to a 4. everything goes to hell once again... if only he'd realized how much the world needs his optimism

lol I'm kind of torn. First two tracks, Broken Horses, and When You're Wrong are all awesome but not everything is sticking beyond the first couple listens. It's a strong 4 or a weak 4.5 but I refuse to use decimals because I'd have to reevaluate everything. Bottom line is that this is great, but not on par with her absolute best.

There are too many songs about being a mom on there. I realize how that sounds but I just kind of tune out when people write those lullaby type songs to their kids.

With a few notable exceptions I def agree (MO, 'The Maze'), but the missed marks here are typically because the ballads are dreary and pointless. I say that with love and respect for Carlile's craft though; she's obviously extremely talented. I like Bear Creek and By The Way better than the new album, but it's still on solid ground and is better than The Firewatcher's Daughter.

I'm just a sucker for her more explosive stuff. Loved Sinners Saints and Fools but I'd kill for something with Hold Out Your Hand's energy

The lyrics in Sinners, Saints and Fools = perfection

They covered Elton John’s Madman Across the Water a bunch during the By the Way tour and you can really tell how much influence that song had on Sinners Saints and Fools. Very similar vibes

I didn't like the song all that much until I paid attention to the lyrics, now I love it. Thanks for drawing attention to them.

“This Time Tomorrow” might be my favorite. Classic Brandi right there - simple, to the point, gorgeous. New album is strong but I expect nothing less from her. It’s not totally rocking my world but I can see it growing a lot over time - most of hers have for me.
