It was the only way of getting certain Pokémon though, I simply had to have that Dratini, or Ryhorn, or Kangaskhan etc. Mainly Dratini, but fortunately he was easy-ish in comparison to some of the others.

Ah yes, the Scyther almost guaranteed a ‘win’ although the real prize was getting to keep the Pokemon. They were big hitters in Safari as well thinking about it.

And the main problem with Scyther was that I only wanted it because it looked cool lol. It was total crap in battle. And I had no friends so I couldn't even get a Scizor lol

Nah man, Scyther was decent. The cool thing about not playing competitively online was all (well, most) Pokémon were usable. Scyther was strong for a bug. I only needed to beat my brother or win the occasional battle with a friend/guy from school.

Well, Gen 1 & 2 were pretty imbalanced. Psychic and Dragon were king (and Ice too, I guess), while Bug/Poison were pretty useless.

Poison wasn't really useful until they introduced Fairy types in gen 6.

Alakazam was like an instant win button in gen 1, no weakness apart from the useless bug type, plus recover & insane speed/special. Goodbye. Jolteon with Pin Missile was pretty much his only decent counter.

Dude, Toxic was the jam. Poison that only gets stronger with time? That is/was one of my favorite moves.

Toxic was beautiful yeah, gen 1 was dumb for TMs though, you mean I can only teach a move once then it’s gone forever? I was thankful for the duplication cheat.

I'm fairly certain they're one and done in Gen2, at least in the original Gold & Silver.
