I've given this album 3 full listens but I fail to see the genius of it. I mean it's okay, but the vocals leave a lot to be desired. They basically sound like a prog-metal version of dredg now.

Anyone else get some Visions - Haken vibes from this? Some of Haken's grandiosity comes off in tracks like Monochrome (passive&pensive), Relapse, and Return to Earth

Maybe a little but Haken sounds cheesier and more all-over-the-place than this

Reimagined is definitely the worse song on here, and I would delete it but then The Center would no longer be in the center

Also I adore the opening riff in Relapse, so so good, the run from Clairvoyant to the end of Relapse is amazing, including Absolve.

This is better than Language, but I only ever listened to Language a couple of times when it first came out so opinion might be invalid.

Pretty strong album. Only real weaknesses are that Lessard doesn't really show his range at all here and some of the longer songs kind of don't go anywhere and plod along.

"To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand The Contortionist. The music is extremely progressive, and without a solid grasp of music theory most of the notes will go over a typical listener's head. There's also The Contortionist's djent style, which is deftly woven into their music - their style draws heavily from early jazz metal, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these influences, to realize that they're not just musical- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike The Contortionist truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the genius of The Contortionist's song Relapse which itself cryptically calls back to the title track, Clairvoyant. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Cameron Maynard's genius unfolds itself on their record player. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a The Contortionist tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand."

can't tell if serious or not

but yeah this is fucking boring

Clairvoyant and Language are pretty equal in terms of quality but in different ways, i predict that in the future will probably listen to both albums back to back to get both sides of Lessards mind

Now with extra NyQuil!

I keep listening, hoping that something finally clicks, but it consistently fails to invest me. I quite liked Language and Exoplanet. This falls short of both.

@groundking if you would delete a song off the album I'm not sure it's still perfect bro.

@BeyondCosby, I haven't deleted it, and it's not a bad song, it just doesn't really fit with the rest of the album. Also I've never said it's perfect and giving an album a 5 doesn't mean I think it's perfect, I give albums a 5 if I can't stop coming back to them. All my 5's on here are albums that I come back to year after year after year and enjoy them as much all over again. This will be one of those albums IMO

Scientists will forever be thankful for this new innovation towards sleep-inducing music. Now, finally, they can subject patients to something other than The National.
