the problem is not the concept
It's not like their classic material wasn't as "anti-system" as this
the problem is in the execution

hope they tour europe real soon

The problem to me isn't just in the execution, at least not in the sense that they just suck, but that the ethos and ideas through wich they wish to convey their message in the studio (a message I agree remains the same in its core) has on the other hand transformed to a point of utter confused aimlessness.
They've now slowly lost their grasp and sense of focus with this band.
Whilst on the flip side of the coin Thee Silver Mount Zion is basically better than ever with each new release. So I don't believe they've lost their spark as musicians, it's just that with the GYBE formation I feel like it's time for them kiss it goodbye

Johnny and I were both thinking about taking a crack at this but tbh this review pretty much covers it. This line alone is more apt that any number of paragraphs I could have conceived: " this new record engenders a last-ditch effort to prevent the end of the world from occurring, as if it plays out before both F#A# and Lift Your Skinny Fists…" An early feature, but this thing has been streaming for some time so I'm under the impression that most who really want to hear this have by now.
My impression of this sort of remains dead set on 4.0, I'm enough of a sucker for GY!BE that this can't be much lower but not enough of one to pretend this is revolutionary. The strings on this are magnificent and one of my favorite developments compared to their last record which focused more on drones. I still wish they'd interject more spoken samples like they did back on their first few releases, but outside of that and perhaps being a tad predictable with the post-rock progressions and developments, I have no major complaints. For me this is just about equal to Asunder, which places it squarely in the realm of 3rd-ish favorite Godspeed.

The sound of 5 people stood in a converted warehouse (political slogans on the wall) looking at their instruments like they've landed from a different planet but believing themselves to be 'artists' so they pick them up with unrestrained arrogance.

so is this actual new material or rehash of old live stuff like their last 2 joints.. either way this was p generic Godspeed imo.

"so is this actual new material or rehash of old live stuff like their last 2 joints"
I thought that was typical of Godspeed. Playing their new stuff live first and/or turning live improvisations or things like that into studio material

Hurrdduurrrr its not as good as the early classics therefore it sucks. Hating on such a hip band makes me cool.
