Yea the production is the worst part of this record.

Probably sounds clipped when downgraded to mp3 definitely. IIRC, they did release a 24bit FLAC mix and if that’s clipped too, yeah we definitely have a problem.

The kick drum in wake/lift has digital clipping ever single kick... I cant handle more than a few minutes of that album because of that.

i have the 16bit flac but the master doesn't physically clip - it sounds like the mix itself is clipping in the heavier points which is something an increase in quality can't fix.

i wouldn't say it sounds as grating as this.

conesmoke calm your tits, I'm referring to it being un-listenable by your description.
It's like Oceanic, the snare drum is mixed weird but it's hardly bad enough to turn off the entire record.

Honestly JAV, the snare on Oceanic (and to a lesser extent Panopticon) is so peculiar and atypical IMO, I think it's actually one of the album's charms. In The Absence Of Truth's snare sound, on the other hand, is definitely up for debate but I digress...

The clean vocals sound nice on Détente, but I kinda do have to agree with DarkNoctus that I liked how they were used on QE slightly better than on here.

It's one of those things that stands out but I tend to ignore it after awhile. When it was first pointed out to me was when I really started paying attention to it. Now I hardly notice.
The album sounds so much better live, I really hope they have someone remaster these albums eventually.

This is such a return to form for me! It’s even beautiful at times I love the direction they went.

This one really grew on me. I think if it had one more banger like King Ivory Tower it would be up there with their best records.

Overall, it wasn’t bad and I enjoyed it; however, the vocals felt way too low in the mix to properly hear them.
