i'm assuming you speak german or trust the translation source?
|
| |
I'm from the lovely city of bonn, germany ;). So yes I do speak the language and I'm sorry to report that it's mostly word-soup.^^

aaaaah
you know that's something I always wonder with foreign language artists. i never really have a good idea of what they are saying so I just assume it's okay, but odds are i've listened to some complete garbage
like I have no idea what the guy in Windir is saying, I hope it's good

Yeah, I've noticed that I'm way more critical with german artists than with english artists, even tho I do understand the english artists.
It doesn't even have to matter, a lot of artists have terrible or nonsensical lyrics but still make great music.

when you say word soup, is it bad poetry, or it really is mostly nonsense?
|

Bad poetry. Big sounding words, always somewhat bleak imagery but no story and not a real rhime or reason behind it.
my rough translation of the first songs first few verses:
A foghorn blows through the thickness (?)
it want's to see me, it cries out for me
go away with the dead
go away with the dead
so I'm setting out, for the Wall of light
and the sound is getting too thick (?!)
therfore I ready for battle
go away with the dead
go away with the dead
restlessly I'm wandering and asking myself
is it a curse or a blessing
the wind is with me, in my duty,
he has my back but blows into my face (this is the only line that I think is significantly better in german, it's a turn of phrase that's just not suitable for translation or at least I'm not good enough^^)
he laughs with me and shares my tears
but he knows nothing about the war
the green it fades and turns to grey
the trees are leafless
the warmth it fades and it turns cold
the world is shrouded

Those aren't the worst lyrics I've ever seen but I almost wish I had never read them. Thanks for translating them

Well, I like the lyrics of Aufbruch tbh (native german speaker here). They're nonsensical and hollow, but still I think they're okay.
Skepsis Pt.II has some really forced rhymes. This bothering me a whole lot more. This album still rules though.
Ein Letzter Tanz has the best lyrics on here. They're actually playing with perspective and fit the song. They're not written by Kamprad though.

Ein letzter Tanz was written by their bassist and yeah it has the best lyrics on the album for sure

meh i honestly didn't even really notice that it was in german. Music and vocals are good and that's really all that matters to me. Best bm album of the last few years imo
