I wasn't calling out your musical taste, I listen to black metal too, I was calling you out on the irony of taking an internet moral stance against some Soundcloud rapper you read about a few times because of his crimes, when I'm guessing if you're a hip hop fan you also enjoy 2Pac and Biggie, both of whom did worse shit than XXX did. But mainly I was mentioning the black metal thing because of the amount of artists in that genre who have done heinous ass shit.



And you've got a couple hundred more ratings than I do and hip-hop doesn't even crack any of your top genres on your profile at 9%, hip hop is at 14% or third place in the genre listing of my 2500+ ratings, so nah, I've actually got a shitload more hip hop ratings than you do.

yeah, I actively avoid most of the black metal bands with members who have done "heinous ass shit". obviously I'm not always gonna be aware 100% of the time but the only ones I can think of that I do listen to are Emperor, whose drummer Faust committed a murder but served time and showed remorse, and Dissection, whose frontman was also a homicidal shithead but now he's dead and I hope his corpse spontaneously combusts too.



as for 2pac and Biggie, yeah, I love them both. I know they were involved pretty deep in some gang shit but I've never heard about specific crimes they committed so I have no idea what they did.



fair enough on the actual ratings, but there's a lot of hip-hop stuff (and a lot of stuff in general) I just haven't rated yet. I fail to see how that's relevant either way. plus I'm kind of out of touch with a lot of the newer stuff in the scene and mostly stick with my 80s and 90s shit lmao

as for Jocelyn Flores the lyrics are kinda cringe but a bit heartbreaking considering he did lose a friend. the beat is what makes it tho but he basically just ripped that off someone else so it devalues my love for the song a bit.

I'm here on sputnik to talk about anything but the music itself of course.

Wishing terrible things on terrible people makes me feel good about myself and I will certainly become a good person.

After I wished terrible things to XXXTENTACION, especially after his death, I've suddenly gained the ability to thank the bus driver, feed the children in Africa, donate my organs to charity even before dying, found a cure to Alzheimer, revive Jesus (my Mexican neighbor's dad), and apologize after saying something stupid/unnecessary online.

But being serious, i feel there's a conversation to be had on whether something being 'profound' or having 'emotional value' can be used as an argument for defending artistic merit. The fact that it is 'real' or 'authentic' has no value on whether it is good music or not. This is a more extreme case with XXX's awful, awful personality, but i feel there are many who defend disgusting music on the sole argument that it is 'real', as if other music isn't?
