Rolling Stone comment FOR TEH LULZ:

"Queens of the Stone Age always sounded like the best glam-band name ever, and while Josh Homme's free-ranging heavy rock hypnotists were never quite that, they come as close as ever on Villains."

I actually thought this was pretty solid. It's not going to be seen as one of their best albums, granted. But it's kind of tough to match the peak of the bar set by Clockwork. And for doing something different and back-to-basics it's done pretty well. I didn't regret investing the little extra for the vinyl.

Fortress is the first time I've heard Homme taking a page from the Foo Fighters' handbook instead of the other way around.

I don't know how to feel like Haunted House. Getting some serious Billy Idol vibes from Josh's vocals.

Groovy as hell, reminds me a of a more polished Era Vulgaris mixed with some of the darkness of Lullabies to Paralyze. So far the most complaints I've seen is "Wah it doesn't sound like old QoTSA", as if the last 3 albums have sounded like "Old QoTSA" either. Great album, groovy, lots of replayability.

More polished EV? Yeah I can see that, no wonder it sucks.

The album is solid, but not too many standout tracks for me to put this higher than a 3.5

Domesticated animals is tops from this so damn good

Some songs take a while to get as interesting as they do (Un-Reborn Again, Domesticated Animals). Still really enjoyed this.

I only have a problem with the production on The Way You Used To Do where everything just sounds super thin. I think it compliments the rest of the album in a way though.
