Then again, "boring" is subjective. For instance, a lot of people might consider the minimalism of Philip Glass or Earth to be dull and boring, but others might see something else in it. Personally, I think there's a number of riffs and melodies here that are worth revisiting despite the numerous flaws

I agree with this. Actually I'd lean more 3.5.
Honestly, I don't get the NB hate. I think it's just memetic, because the band makes pretty solid radio rock, and every album is plenty fun to jam if you're not looking for anything particularly cerebral.
