"Endless Ways is the best"
Much agree. The others are a bit meh next to that.
|
| |
Close Your Eyes is the best track here tbh

Endless Ways awakens my inner woman.

I haven't given this too much of a chance I'll admit, but I'm getting a little tired of everything they do having to build to some crescendo.

Huh I dug this a lot more than I expected. Solid disc.

Yeah it's really good. Love this. It'll probably keep growing on me.

It's a nice mix of their 2010s crescendocore with some of the older doomy vibes, so I can see it going a long way for me.
Now Anathema are even harder to rank :/

hahaha ikr? one of the most consistent discographies ever.

It says a lot about them that Alternative 4 is probably my least fave post-doom album

Disappointed with this. I want the Anathema that changed their sound on every album, back

This is slightly different to their other stuff though - it's like a darker version of Distant Satellites, with less cheesy epicness

| |
This is totally different from previous albums dude. Difference between this and WHBWH is night and day (literally)

DS feels darker than this. This is basically an album of simple melodies that build to a crescendo. That's been the formula for a while now. There isn't enough variety at all, and it's much too piano heavy. You have a keyboard player, incorporate some cool keyboard tones here and there. Something different at least.
It's just too simplistic, and doesn't do justice to the talent these guys have.

I think their talent lies in making the most out of simple structures and melodies on this one; it's stripped back compared to their last three (or four, I guess), and they work it to their credit imo

I wish I could agree with ya johnny.
It's got good moments for sure, but it doesn't do enough for me at the end of the day unfortunately

Kinda how I feel about Weather Systems ;]
Tbh I've phased out of Anathema over the years, so it's nice to have an excuse to come back to them
|
| |
I like Weather Systems better than this but both are great listens. And honestly, I feel like this has higher highs. None of the tracks on Weather Systems amaze me as much as, say, Close Your Eyes.
