No. Imagine if BTBAM played songs that weren't boring. The technicality is similar in places but they are playing such different music that it's hard to compare. THe song writing is better and they are many times more insane live while still being accurate.

"I missed a DEP show a few weeks ago.. Still kicking my own *** because of it.... They won't come to denmark again for a long time I'm guessing..
I heard they still play songs from the EP live? Is that true?.. I'd love to hear if their new singer can keep up with patton."

I'm yet to get into Dillinger. Are they similiar at all to BTBAM? And if they are, how much? Needless to say, I'm in love with Alaska. And I have a suspicion that I may enjoy this too. Although it sounds slightly more chaotic than I'm into.
pretty much everyone who likes BTBAM will also enjoy DEP, so you've got that going for you. But they're really not THAT similar at all, except in how theyve taken a stale genre and breathed new life into it.
BTBAM is more death metal and DEP is more grindcore. Hard to differentiate at first, but BTBAM's guitars go jun-jun-jun-jun while DEP's make grinding noises (especially on their first album). They don't downtune like most death metal so their vicious chords are more high pitched.

I just started listening to these guys, but i like this CD alot better than the stuff ive heard from their older CDs. That may be because im a whore for good production when it comes to newer bands, and i barely gave the other stuff any time. I like this baby though.

I've recently realized this isn't as good as I thought it was. Most of the tracks are just too generic and plodding.

It's a great album.
Listen to the portion in 'Sunshine the Werewolf' (the actual subject matter of the song is quite disturbing) where Greg sings something along the lines of "swim to shore."
The double-bass in the back is some of the fastest I've ever heard.

I have, and have heard good things.
Never listened to them, though.
Therefore, it is the fastest that I'VE ever heard. This Message Edited On 05.25.06

After repeated listens I've decided that this album is the perfect mix of technical insanity and melody (oh they're there).

I listened to this for the first time today and it drove me insane. This is great music to listen to when you're really pissed off, but I definitely couldn't listen to this on a regular basis.

I agree Zebra, this is certainly anger music... Most grind is like that Ive heard several songs from this album, and really enjoyed all of them.

I don't consider them really grind.
|
| |
Yeah, come to think of it I agree. Well, Im not really a grind expert anyway.

I wouldnt consider these guys grind either. I am no "expert" at grind myself, nor am i at any genre for that matter. I typically enjoy grind, but DEP certainly is not that. Anyway, this album is 3/5 in my book, the singer is just a bit too refined for my taste. I prefer Calculating Infinity a little bit more, the vocals are more raw and passionate in my opinion.

I'm gonna strike with more of my 'Cravinov BS subgenre theorys", but I would simply clal them the purest form of math-core, which (as far as they are concerned), mixes hints of grind with hardcore punk and post-hardcore, bits of metalcore and screamo, and hint of industrial all composed with distinct time signatures that equal mathcore.

I still have to listen to this band.

I have to say this. I loved "Calulating Infinity" but this album is alot better. Not only did they reinforce the 100MPH stop on a dime Technical Metal extravaganza...but they showed us they were not a one trick pony.
They grew as musicians and song writers. In this album we have extreme dynamics...moments of beauty, where there are more visable influences: flamenco, electronica, punk, jazz, and rock. Greg's vocals took awhile to get used too, but man this guy suits the band better then Patton. Yea Patton is a musical genius, but he really didn't explore. Sure he's yelling, singing in falsetto and other vocal styles...but it got predictable. Miss Machine...vocally speaking, is more natural and emotional.
I gave this album a 5...I listened to it for 6 hours straight on an airplane when I got it (roughly just after it came out), and it has not left it's spot in my car's play list. It's a true classic. Calculating Infinity gets redundant after awhile but this album is so diverse it makes it that much better.
