I’m pro EU btw, though the bureaucracy and attitude of the EU is partly why I think people voted leave - it’s not all anti-immigration white van man, people saw it as another layer of interference and unnecessary governance where our elected officials didn’t seem to get thrown a bone
In terms of inheritance (the reason a lot of people work hard and yeah, already pay tax earning through their lives, is to leave some money for who they want to when they die) - there should be some tax on inheritance but too much will put people off saving and indeed striving - who gives a fuck if it’s going to be taken off you later? Labour will go hard on this.
There will also be stealth cuts to people’s private pensions through share schemes - again deterring private sector business in the UK and will affect people with existing pensions/savings who’ve already paid loads of tax.
Basically your reliable average to medium high tax payer would be clobbered by Labour, esp if they work in the private sector. The richest can of course scoot out of dodge and a lot will escape financial harm...because they have that choice.

Good old Doof. Educating the Stormzy crowd like an absolute lad.
'And where on the anti-immigration scale would you put yourself'
Skilled workers - Yep, bring them in but cap it. I'd rather money was invested in training people who are already here. And when I say skilled I mean in order to fulfil a quota of required places not just all and sundry to force wages down.
Refugees - Yep, bring them in but genuine cases none of this fleeing from so and so reaching wherever then going to wottsit via thingamajig in order to get here nonsense.
I'd say pre the Blair years of 50'000 is reasonable and there has to be strict monitoring and recording on the census. None of this family of five counting as one bollocks.
Plus there has to be an integration into the culture but I have eased off this a bit as a result of British culture going down the toilet in the past twenty years.

Lol, the Stormzy crowd. Not me.

Have you dudes checked your political compass lately? Would be interested to know where you sit.
|
| |
That compass is shit.

Last time I did a blind pick the policy survey before the last election I ended up:
20% Green
20% Lib Dem
20% Labour
20% Tory
20% UKIP
It was ridiculous - I just pick and mixed the best policies from all the parties...because who wouldn’t?
Not a great policy survey - then again I’d quite like to know what I’d pick this election, prob the same confused head fuck of a result

I’m actually going to do the political compass thing now and see what it comes up with

Lol it's not that bad haha

no political compass is actually a really bad metric of discerning someone's actual leanings. its completely unreliable
|

Ah well, it hits me on the head p much
|

Yep just done it and it’s definitely shit.
Anyway.

Ah so this is where the Brit poitics thread has been hiding. What a turd of an election season this has been, pleasantly surprised (but not hugely so) to find myself largely agreed with Doof. Pharma and inheritance points are on it.

I’m nearest to Green in their position on the scale lol, maybe I should have said kill everyone esp all prisoners and women wanting abortions
Thing is, there’s the fact some parties are just inept, which isn’t taken into account
|
| |
So it's shit because it has you near the middle? Exactly as I would've guessed it based on this thread, Zak.

The compass thing seems designed for the States more than the UK based on those questions - too much religion, just not a massive factor in my life or day to day experience of life in he country
Obviously you have the anti semitism and anti Muslim stuff associated with the two main parties but still - seems more a US thing
|
| |
Yeah, fair - anyone actually believe the anti-Semite BS that the media/Tories try to lump on JC though?
|
| |
The funniest update in politics these last couple of months for me has been bojo announcing that he won't be opening an inquiry into Islamophobia (having publicly promised this) because he wants to investigate *all* prejudice in the blue ranks
Pick your fucking battles, mate.

He is just the worst. I'm enjoying Farage trying to sue Led By Donkeys for owning thebrexitparty.com domain, by citing EU law.

"Yeah, fair - anyone actually believe the anti-Semite BS that the media/Tories try to lump on JC though?"
Yes and it's concerning how many voices from the community have come forwards about it, but the pot-kettle-black bullshit of the Tories playing it up is tired and if anything delegitimises it by putting it on the same playing field of cheap slurs they normally shoot for. And also astoundingly hypocritical given the anti-semitic subtext in 2015 Millband sandwich gate.

Labour anti semitism?
Not really but Corbyn dithered.
He dithers a lot.
Come out quick and unequivocally say the right things and the chief rabbi bloke doesn’t come out and say what he’s just said this week, even if he has other reasons for wanting to. You take away that option, you deal with it.
Corbyn doesn’t want to play certain parts of the media game and then shit like this happens. It doesn’t inspire confidence.
