"would like to see him branch out a bit but whatever this is great"

This has a very "this is the end of an era" feel to it to me. I feel like this is the record he needed to release (and I'm glad he did). I think the next album is going to be out of left field stylistically. That's my prediction anyway. For right now I can't stop listening to this though.

Listening to his work in the past few years, Jeff seems to have found his comfort zone for songwriting. Just about everything hes worked on has had the "kinda beach rocky weezer inspired synth infused pop rock with an edge of punk and xylophones and songwriting about hating myself" sound consistently, even on the records he just produced. This album is undoubtedly the apex of that style, and a mixture of his sound through ASOB and BTMI, which is why I like it so much instrumentally. It really is him pretty much "abbey roading" it.

in due time

Interesting that you say it's a mixture of BTMI and ASOB. Looking at the tracklist, I'm predicting the first half is more BTMI, and the second is more ASOB

the first half is a lot more of an expansion into Jeff's solo sound, while the last half has an entire section dedicated to an ASOB sound and then elements of BTMI thrown in. I personally love it.

arguably the best style of music ever invented aside from synth/electro pop and baroque pop.

There are only like 2 or 3 songs that could be considered ASOB-ish

Judging from Festival Song and Wave Goodnight, the first half is definitely an expansion of his solo work, yeah

My Top 5 in no order: We Begged 2 Explode, Staring Out the Window, Wave Goodnight to Me, I Did Something Weird Last Night, Hellllhoooole

also, off topic but the drum machines on ...While You're Alive sound so much like early BTMI.
