again, i can't be rational about this band. this is everything i was hoping for. what a way to end this nine-year ride.

I highly doubt that this is going to be the last Dear Hunter album tbh

It's been confirmed that it won't be, however it is the last album of this concept and so obviously has that air of finality to it

It's not. Just the last of the traditional Act albums.
After the tour, he's looking to make a record of an other independent story he's been wanting to work on for a while. If this will release before or after Act VI isn't exactly clear at this point.

I'm still bored by sections of this and I feel ashamed
|

You should be ashamed by the sections that don't bore you tbh. (p.s. you shouldn't be ashamed at all, just enjoy what you like...)

lol I know, but these guys have a certain reputation to live up to for me...not quite as much as Brand New but enough that they're close to being in that same conversation.
I'm so conflicted over this because even though I like every song while listening, absolutely none of them aside from maybe Gloria remain in my memory after the album is done. I'm going to chalk it up to just needing more time, but this has never been a band that's needed time to sink in.

They definitely have a similar reputation as Brand New, but I think we have a different idea as to what that reputation actually entails ;)

Most Cursed of Hands, Haves Have Naught and the Flame are top DH tracks tho

I had one spin of this because my order takes forever. If I didn't know that Act IV also didn't impress me before eventually loving it, I'd say I'm slightly disappointing right now, but not being able to recall about 75% of the album is also a sign that I only scratched the surface at this point. Expecting this to grow a lot.
The Haves Have Naught did excite me right away though.

See for me The Color Spectrum and Act IV both hit hard right away. I listened to half of Act V again this morning though and I seemed to enjoy it more than I did my first 2 full listens, so I'm holding out hope. Of course I use that term relative to the band, as even now I have it at a 4.

Probably in the minority but I don't care much for Mr. Usher. March, Cursed Hands, Light and Fire/Flame all really do it for me though

First impressions on Melpomene was that it didn't sound quite as mesmerizing as Remembered from Act IV. Mr. Usher sounded very jazzy and well produced, but didn't really do a lot for me.
Sounds like I'm being quite negative, but again, all based on one listen.

I liked this from the get go but felt a different tone to Act IV (which I fell in love with), over time this had started to grow on me so to all wondering why they feel like it's not clicking... wait it out and give it time. If you are a TDH fan it will come
