Already finished Fortitude, it's definitely at the bottom, not terrible but lacking, the desire to experiment with melodies is tangible but they don't pay off that much, my main concern is weak riffing and a couple of parts feels recycled from previous songs.
Into The Storm and New Found are probably my favs there.

"and i liked the album when it was new fwiw" you mean this one? ok. Despite the hate it got among sput the album revealed itself one of the most important from the last decade, with the branch out it accomplished.
inflamesWeThrash666 - sometimes I feel many users decide to hate stuff before they're even up, so whatever, you disliked Into the Storm right of the bat and its a very cool song for me, it brings the feels bb ***
I still think they were solid there. Still need a few more spins. Although it seems that way, I'm not fighting you guys XD It is at the bottom, although I don't have jiras under 4.

Into the Storm is what Fortitude as a whole should have been: a more mellow prog metal sound mixed with the technical playing and intricate arrangements of the past. Unfortunately, most of the album is content with just being boring as fuck

I thought Grind actually ends the record on a very good note.

I kinda agree with the first half of Divergent's last thought.

Also, Into The Storm has probably the best chorus in the whole album

"ye this one, i didnt hate it at all... i still dont hate it or even think its bad, just doesnt do much for me anymore" different ways to live (rate I mean lol) I feel a 2.5 a despicable rate. I keep my rates at their highest, even if I don't listen to them anymore (which is not even the case for me with this one). I do readjust, but keep the past value.

"Also, Into The Storm has probably the best chorus in the whole album" fuck yeah...I can be back at 4.5ing these guys when they fully embrace dad's rock. Like I always imagine Mastodon making a prog rock album lol

Despite the negative attention the new one gets, I'm glad it came on my radar. They've got a new fan in me. Will definitely check their older stuff out as well.
