Listened to this again today and it really clicked with me. I'd say this is of similar quality to DEK which I loved, not sure which I prefer yet.

Serein and Old Heart Falls do nothing for me. I find them kind of plain and boring... Can't decide between a 3.5 or 4 for this one.

It's really a varied album, no doubt about that.. it feels like certain songs could have been on DEK and going back through their discography, it pretty much covers thing since LFDGD. If you're listening to it chronologically, it really lacks a flow, from one song to the next; which can make it feel disjointed and lack immediacy of previous albums. However, that's okay with me because each track stands on its own as a monumental memorial of their "art" (with minor exception to Serein and one other that slips my mind..). It's not a perfect Katatonia album. I'm a hypocrite about my previous statement because I rated it a 5.0 when I initially heard it through twice.. I think I was high off the song "Passer" and simply rushed to judgement, ushering it in prematurely as a "classic". If I could change my rating, I'd probably be sitting at a 4.6. Of course, only time will truly tell how it stands next to their other works. I think the main observation here on Fall Of Hearts is the musicianship, production/mix and songwriting in general. They have truly mastered their own craft at this point - what will be REALLY interesting is where they go after this.

For me there's ni way this end up being superior than a 4, no matter how many times I spin it.

@evolvedresolve Are you aware that you can change an album's rating endless times?

Agreed with Doctor, Night is the New day is also a solid 4 for me, just as this one seems to be, based on the fact that Serein is begining to grow on me.

dead end kings is literally a copy/paste of night, how can you not see that? except it's more streamlined than ever. not a bad album but pretty damn generic by their standards

I see DEK more like a continuation from where they left in Night is the New Day, a transition rather than a copy/paste record.
