"Musical complacency" describes Deftones to a tee.
I stick with them merely because they play music that from a superficial standpoint pleases the ears. But whenever I dig deeper I realize the music is empty and generic and formulaic. The only album that truly "satisfies" me by them is their self-titled.
But they sound good enough to listen to here and there.

the review is completely wrong in saying that deftones have always been this way, like you're saying as well stars. the homogenousness started in diamond eyes and came to the forefront in their most recent two releases, but to say that everything before that was complacent, similar and recognised because it fit the musical zeitgeist is way off

I'm kind of butt hurt that this review dropped the metacritic score for Gore from an 81 to an 80 lol.(yeah I use metacritic) Talons review should be featured. This review has no substance which is a shame because I really enjoyed this writers review of Sunbather.

Alright, it's been a fun ride. Laughter was to be had, tears shed, and memories made. I think it's clear that Eli was screwing around and having a little fun; a lot of people need to chill and not take things so personally. He's even admitted that this is a joke out in the open.
I've returned Talon's to the default but the staff reviews getting flagged isn't something that's going to change. If you think most/all staff reviews are awful, then let that fuel your motivation to make staff yourself and better the site.
