Ugh that major key solo in Harbinger is def their best guitar solo ever. Highlight of the album imo

Man, I never have an urge to return to this. :/ Hope their next LP is better.

Same, but that's changed as of late. This has been growing on me. I do think the production is kinda subpar though. Sounds like the lead guitar is way too low.

I think one of my biggest frustrations with this is how weak the lyrics are.

Never really paid attention to them here. As long as they ain't about pitbulls I'm good lol

What do you have against pitbulls?
Also, listen to the terrible mixed metaphors on "Caravan" and then report back to me.

Nothing, I just don't wanna hear a song about em lol

Yeah, speaking of the lyrics: I love PTH and love Rody with all my heart but even I have to admit, he's not as smart as he sometimes thinks he is. I'm not sure if he intentionally wants to write lyrics like Arif (but obviously cannot) or he feels that people expect him to write like Arif or it's simply misguided pseudo-intellectualism on his part, but he can definitely write some cringeworthy lines. But hey whatever, I still scream them with him when listening/at concerts lol.

bloc: Depends which version you're listening to. The official realease sounds like absolute garbage: way too much mid- and upper-bass emphasis makes it sound like it was recorded underwater. And cymbals sound like breaking glass or crinkling cellophane.
The original subscriber releases didn't sound too bad, though, apart from being a bit bass-heavy in general.
Cosby: Pretty sure that's the whole point. I mean, listen to some of the other lyrics:
"The Sun, the Moon, the Earth, and the shore
Tired metaphors played out before your eyes
Sedation, satisfaction"
"Tired metaphors."
"Interpret the meaning
To mean whatever you want it to be
I've heard these same words fall from my own lips
It falls flat and I question its value
It falls flat and I question its worth"
Pretty self-explanatory.
"This is the confluence of narrative and naivety
Swallowing a stream of lies and empty poetry"
Again.
Pretty sure the song is using these throwaway metaphors intentionally to get the listener to fall prey to the very thing its urging them not to do in order to better sell the "these metaphors are all meaningless bullshit/you should hold music to a higher standard" punchline.

the songs felt longer without going anywhere for quite a while with me but it's definitely a grower

When Rody repeats "somehow close and somehow distant" he sounds so damn good

cold water is so fuckin good. one of their best

Tidal is outstanding
Ragged Tooth and Harbinger are good
Cold Water was a hard grower
the other 2 feel stronger as instrumentals. Rody has some great parts on both of them but they're stronger when the instrumental work is the focus

This feels indeed weaker than their other album
