Kind of surprised I wasn't wowed by Cantrell's solo. I mean, it's just a regular Jerry Cantrell solo. Idk I was expecting like "Rain When I Die" gritty type playing which would have probably fit nicely on Acid Hologram or some other tracks. Plus his guitar tone doesn't mesh with the clean guitars under it and it just sounds like Cantrell was just going off on his guitar in some room and they recorded it, took the best snippets, and just put them in the song.

honestly i dug it. it wasn't really based around the solo in my opinion. Just some textural lead playing with a couple snippets of letting the leads peak through everything else. Even with the bit at 2:30ish it was no more a solo than something like the leads on Rocket by TSP. I guess I just viewed it more texturally and I liked the tone.

They probably weren't going for a big cock rock solo anyways. That would be lame

this review more closely mirrors my feelings on this record....If I'd never heard the Deftones, and this was the first record I heard from them....it's not bad at all....but as a seasoned fan, it's just average compared to the rest of the discography

It's not a bad album but I just don't feel the same passion as with earlier records. Still a lot of solid songs on here, just nothing that unique or innovative.

Pittura Infamante and Xenom both remind me of Smashing Pumpkins pretty hard.

koi no yokan, white pony, and gore are considered to be overweight chino deftones whilst diamond eyes, atf, and adrenaline are skinny chino deftones. fat chino circa deftones consists of albums such as s/t and snw.

Yeah, I thought this same thing for Pittura for sure. Especially the bridge. Need to go listen to Xenom again with this in mind.
