Oh come on there's no way those are coincidences. This band sucks Mono's dick for an hour straight, in everything they do. Listen to For My Parents and tell me it's a coincidence how much this album sounds like it. And Hymn to the Immortal Wind.

minty: they also ripped off the very ending of the album from everlasting light which is kind of hilarious
edit: oh, you already mentioned that. glad i'm not the only one.

tbh i will admit that i lowered the score of this simply due to all the shameless references to mono, at the end of the album i loudly shouted "oh COME ON" which amused my fiance greatly
but the immediacy and the aggression at least set it apart enough so i can enjoy it

I enjoy it. I just feel bad about enjoying it because I hold Mono quite dearly. I'm a little protective over them because for all of their flaws, Mono did bring a lot of originality to the table for post-rock. They brought so much to the table and So Hideous have simply yoinked it. Bands did the same with Explosions in the Sky but I'm not sure any band ever copied them quite as successfully as So Hideous have done Mono.

I love mono especially early stuff but they can be very static and do not move as much as these tracks do and sound more rooted in eastern melodies at points (kanata) where this more like ludovico or glass or some shit like that. as for the ending I took it as Wagner or Beethoven style aping from both bands.

it's not direct mono references but rather extremely predictable and kitschy music (read: the majority of mono albums)

This is a little too predictable, I think. Still a good listen, though!

I thought this album was quite remarkable. The track "The True Pierce" is one of the most magnificent things I've ever heard from this genre. Fitting with the theme of album, it truly sounds like an ascension to the afterlife. So Goddamn beautiful.

I still think this is incredible, even with the mono-like passages. I see them as more homage than plagiarism. And lets be honest, this is better than anything mono has done since hymn to the immortal wind
