Wow. This is fucking horrible, I'm feeling sick. Watching CNN right now, the drummer's brother is being interviewed by Anderson Cooper. According to him the band went off stage and took off from the venue right as they heard gun shots... Didn't specify more than that, but it seems like all band members are okay. But yeah... This is just surreal.

I think Fish is simply trying to convey the message I was mentioning earlier, which is that to blame Islam specifically is to have your microscope zoomed in too far. Religion, no matter what you want to call it, can and has driven people to commit acts such as these throughout history. Right now, yes, I concede that Islam is by and large the biggest culprit. However, that does not really mean that Islam specifically is the problem. It is more that people can be persuaded to do obscene things through many mediums. This is something that cannot really be fixed and people will continue to exploit others through such means for the rest of time.

Fish is again right though when it comes to qualified academics. Any academic of Islam that doesn't come from the Salafi school or any other very conservative sect of the religion will tell you that violence is at best only permitted in a defensive act. What these extremists have done is leverage religiously bent content that is tediously linked to justifiable violence to lead people to perpetrate acts such as these.

There are myriad examples that justify overt and aggressive violence in the Old Testament; Leviticus and Deuteronomy are just two books with such passages. Thus to claim that this is not a problem in Christianity or Judaism is short sighted. The potential is there, it just happens that, at this point in history, Islam has acted upon it more than the aforementioned two religions. The fact still remains that religions is one of many mentally invasive ideologies that helps support outrageous things like what happened tonight in Paris.

This is a tragedy and my thoughts are with the families and victims, this would have been a very scary event to experience.

All I can think of now is how badly anyone of Middle Eastern descent is going to be treated in the aftermath. And while Islam is not a race, it is a widely accepted religion in the middle east, and if you think people aren't physically judging people and deeming them ''Muslims" by their appearance, that's quite naive. People aren't lynched in the streets after being politely asked their religion, so it is a race issue indirectly. That said there's nothing wrong with debating Islamist ideals, but educate yourself before doing so because uninformed bullshit spread by the media does not count as education.
