I found this very boring...missing the Carnavas days.

I miss their grungy guitars of old but I think they've excelled in the presentation on this record with a more broad sound.

I miss their grungy guitars of old
p much this, they did have a good amount of variety on previous albums as well
i actually feel as if they have less variety now, with pretty much everything soft

As someone who hasn't heard their previous records I gotta say this is excellent.
Ragamuffin has some Interstellar vibe

I know it's not that old, but album's aged well and I enjoy the whole thing. Do want that crunchiness back though.

Listening to this album, I have no idea why Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins are on their similar artists list. They don't sound anything like those bands.
|
| |
not a bad thing, but definitely odd that anyone would listen to this band and say they sound anything like those bands
|
| |
Listen to their first 2 and you'll get it
Still need to check this and the one before it. Already know I'm gonna miss the grunginess though

picked this album up the other day. Couple songs are fantastic, while the rest are so unbelievably dull and boring. Most sound like rehashed tracks from neck of the woods, which was a great album and a wonderful step in a new direction. But this album.... Sounds like they tried to make neck of the woods again but took out the dark curiousness that made the album good. Instead they filled it up with fluff and a ton of nonsensical and downright silly electronic elements. Which yes i know neck of the woods was very electronic but it didnt feel as awkward as this. The Pit is a great example of an amazing electro pop song for them. Plus the majority of the hooks on here are forced and bland. Songs are too long for their poppyness too. Might have to 2.5 this. Incredibly disappointed. Damn, I thought this band could do no wrong.

You have to be in the mood for this album I think, unlike their previous which are good anytime. Agree with above post that the strong songs are excellent.

just like swoon felt like a progression for carnavas, this feels like a the same thing for neck of the woods. easily sspu's most atmospheric album although it does still hit hard at times.

woah Sowing, you definitely bumped the rating there. I hope it grows on me that much. a 3.7 sounds about right. I think this album needs more hard hitters as opposed to builders and slow burners. Nightlight is definitely a top-notch single and Cradle also does a great job of showing their energy. Connection is alright at best and Latchkey Kids sounds like complete filler. Those are the only 2 I'm not really feeling. Circadian Rhythm is good but it needs more. Raggamuffin, Tapedeck, and The Wild Kind (which specifically could have done a little more near the end) all sound like songs this band should be writing and are all fantastic. I think my overall conclusion is that to compliment for less Nightlight bangers, this album needed more powerful climaxes for most of the songs. 3.2 average is pretty saddening though. Way better than that.

yeah this should be at around a 3.5 at least average wise...oh well. and @Grey i agree with everything you said (except for Latchkey Kids, think that one is my favorite) well put.

Will you guys rec your favorite 3-4 songs off this?
I really want to get into this but trying to go start to finish everytime I lose interest. If those favorite songs click I'll want more and actually appreciate listening through this.
