Funeral is still their best song, but cigarettes & saints isn't far behind

i dunno y'all i think best song is "and now i'm nothing". "cigarettes" is easily one of their absolute best though duh
|
| |
And Now I'm Nothing really is so fucking incredible, Soupy's vocals on that entire song are just too good

TGG really does go downhill after Teenage Parents and only truly recovers at Funeral personally
|
| |
nah i reckon it's pretty consistent with the quality of the rest of the album except for "chaser" and "madelyn"

Only reason I don't think TGG is better is solely cause I hate "madelyn," if that song weren't on TGG then the album would be flawless. With this album I personally haven't found a track that I can't stand.
Also can someone explain the complaints with the production? This albums been on repeat for me and I can't really hear any production issues...that said, I do believe I hear a guitar glitch out in the beginning of "a song for Ernest Hemingway

I'm still having trouble deciding where this sits for me. I like it a lot, but it's nowhere near as grand as TGG. I mean the closer is a 2 minute acoustic song, man that's disappointing considering Funeral, And Now I'm Nothing and All my Friends are in Bar Bands were such good closers.
No Closer to Heaven (the song) is good on it's own, but I can't help but feel disappointed, like this album was almost testing the waters for a new sound.

About to start listening to this, lack of a giant closer is disappointing though, every previous TWY album had a great closing track that summed up the album and TWY's acoustic stuff is always godawful.

just think of "palm reader" as the closer and title track as an epilogue kinda thing

I have the actual CD and the production is iffy but not bad

Greenpaw, listen to the album with the bonus tracks at the end, they really add more to the album and makes the closing of it a little better

I am also disappointed by the lack of an epic closer on this
|
| |
yea would have loved one but they can't all be epic closers. anyway, "palm reader" is pretty epic.

closing with the title track was honestly a great move

San Andreas is pretty fucking great.

The production ranges from really good on some tracks (Cardinals, Cigs & Saints), somewhat confusing on others (I Don't Like..., Stained Glass Ceilings), and downright awful on a couple (Bluest Things, Ernest Hemingway).
I have the iTunes download, but once I have time to get to a Target I'm going to buy the CD. Hopefully it will sound better.
I kind of view this as TWY's "experimental" album; they definitely break a lot of new ground, but it still sounds like a natural progression from their older material. I don't think its as good as Suburbia or TGG though.
Also, Palm Reader is such a clunker good lord

Just heard the deluxe tracks, and I think San Andreas is better than two or three songs on the album. I don't quite understand how this is a B-Side and something like The Bluest Things on Earth, which is good enough but nothing special to my ears, makes it onto the album proper. And the alternate version of Palm Reader is meh.
Also has anyone heard or seen videos from the acoustic shows they've been doing to promote the album? Would love to see those.
