i like bloom much more than teen dream, but both are very enjoyable. this is certainly much less catchy but i love the atmosphere on some of these tracks - especially ppp and days of candy.
i get why someone would think this is bland, it just takes a little bit of time. i actually thought this completely sucked the first couple times hearing it.

Yeah there's no arguing the textural quality, especially on PPP and Levitation, those tracks are gorgeous.

still think teen dream is their indie pop masterpiece, but this is pretty damn good too.

pretty chill I suppose but I can't say I heard anything that makes me want to revisit this.

dude this is awesome idk what you're on about. idk how people don't easily slip into this with an opening track as fantastic as levitation. i mean, the latter half took a while for me to get into but the song starts with three of the strongest tracks.

Yeah the beginning three songs rule
I don't understand how a fan of Beach House wouldn't like this
Makes no sense

I'm sure there are Rolling Stones or Pearl Jam fans who still buy all the new records and have the same argument...but then there are those who say 'they've done similar work only to better effect in the past, nothing to see here, I'm done with them'. It's a pretty common pattern, fans loyalty is usually tested by album three or four if the band's aesthetic remains roughly the same
Recent example, Sigur Ros. Up to Takk I'd get really excited about hearing what they'd do next. At this point, nah, mild curiosity at most. They've started repeating themselves a lot.
I feel much the same about the Wilco album this year so I'm not singling out Beach House

I brought my copy into college the other day because it's actually a pretty good stress reliever, just stroking it.

The ending of PPP reminds me of the ending of one of the songs on F#A#

10:37 is the only really weak track, imo, but the dabbling in variety pays off tremendously on "Spark" and "Days of Candy".
