The production on this hides the flaws in his vocals imo, on other albums he's defo more nasal/annoying, although I think the vocals are perfect for the band - can you imagine anyone else singing these songs? Hell no.

Yeah the vocals work here. They aren't as high on the mix compared to the next ones.

Everything about this album is strained and pent-up, so his vocals fit perfectly ye

@Doof yep his soft vocals in moments like the end of Hummer or the chorus of Luna are like butter
And if you're trying to say that you haven't been convinced by Chino's harsh vocals since White Pony (or maybe s/t), then I completely concur

@Johnny I'd have to disagree, there is so much catharsis here

Woah - Chino's harsh vocals are still top tier imo

My only guess is that people who think that have pets and are used to the sound of a cat screeching

Lot of absolute toss by the band in general but when they’re good their up there with the best of all time.

Oceania is solid imo, one of the few good things this band has done in the past 20 years.

Their whole 90s discog is amazing but I admit I haven’t investigated beyond that and don’t feel inclined to.

Honestly I think their new stuff is underrated, almost every album has cuts worth checking

I've always felt like something was off with Corgan's songwriting on post reformation pumpkins stuff. A lot of its decent but something's different that I can't quite put my finger on.

New stuff is generally solid, but there's lower lows than anything on their prime material for sure. A lot of weird choices - usually poor production (esp. in comparison to SD/MC/Adore), the best songs being left off, etc.
That said Corgan has stayed about as prolific as he was in the 90s so inevitably some of it is going to be pretty great. I think if most of the post Machina material was released under a different name (solo, hell even Zwan) they'd be held in a bit higher esteem, obviously SD and MC are totemic pieces of alt rock royalty that will loom large over anything released after. In fact I think the best releases have been Corgan's solo stuff, there's no baggage with using the SP name and they felt like he was chasing a muse (The Future Embrace is his best album since the breakup, and that's a hill I will gladly die upon), whereas with SP it always felt like he was trying to reclaim the band's mainstream popularity.

"A lot of its decent but something's different that I can't quite put my finger on."
Yeah, it's weird. I honestly just think they tapped into something truly special in the 90s. Lightning in a bottle kind of thing.

(sorry for spamming) Also he's had this horrible tendency to start his albums with one of its worst songs: ZG with Doomsday Clock, Oceania with Quasar, Ogilala with Zowie, Shiny with Knights of Malta... I don't get it.

I don't particularly mind any of those songs hahaha, but lots of good takes there. Expect on Future Embrace *shudder*
Is that you Helperoni?

yep! lol TFE took a long time to click with me. Cautiously optimistic about bringing back some synth-pop for Cyr.
