If you're gonna explore austerity-era Britain, at least make sure you know what you're fucking talking about first

I'm actually scratching my head to think who represents 'us' in the music scene. I'll still say Noel G.
|
| |
I don't even know who represents me anymore, Sleaford Mods are the only people I can relate to in the slightest and even then there's not much there
Went to a local punk festival full of underground acts recently and it was just shite
|
| |
I'm from Kent and the only local bands I listen to are just creating (good) noise, don't care for politics in music unless it's The Drones in AUS
|
| |
I bet. Probably always was the same in the punk scene to be honest except for the very first few weeks in '76
|
| |
Punk never lived up to what it always claimed to be and that's the fundamental problem
|
| |
I don't know. The energy, the demand to be heard and doing it by yourself is timeless it's just 99% of bands are in it for reasons they don't even understand.
Who the fuck forms a band after listening to American Idiot?
|
| |
The only time I ever got anything from American Idiot is when I was 12 and full of meaningless angst. Listening to it now I can appreciate it but that's about it.
The punk ethos are brilliant but yeah people just don't know what to do with it.
|
| |
Kubichek have a resolute post-punk record which I identify pretty well with
and Aidan Moffat's mumbled misery speaks to me a lot

"The only time I ever got anything from American Idiot is when I was 12 and full of meaningless angst. Listening to it now I can appreciate it but that's about it."
exactly this, never bothered to change my rating for it but if i'm being honest it's probably a kind 3.
|
| |
I can relate to Mogwai more than anything else right now and they play bloody post rock
@daniel yeah my rating is more for nostalgia purposes than anything else
|
| |
It's like anything you either have it or you don't.
You can't learn it, or try to do it. You simply get out what's in.

Million Dead were around just long enough. They ran their course but their music still kicks arse. The messages the behind the songs are very much of their time (Blair bashing) but the music has a timeless quality to it.

"yeah my rating is more for nostalgia purposes than anything else"
yeah exactly, like homecoming is way more overbloated than it has any right to be, one of the most un-punk songs from any punk band ever i can think of lol.

Birds in dresses and boots are goddesses in my book.
|
| |
A floral dress and a pair of doc martens are unbeatable but actual punk girls are less than stellar
|
| |
damn i'm on my phone, have to watch the links later.
|

Rough as arseholes.
Yep frock and 8 hole DMs and who actually know what it's about. The missus is there. Not now obviously she'd look a berk but back in the day.
|
| |
Yeah they wouldn't take any shit
I'm sure she'd love a compliment like that from you haha
|
| |
my gf lives in sleaford, place is fucking miserable and sleaford mods arent even from there
