^ Those 2 and fairly local are exactly what I had in mind.

my opinion on tear in my heart is: the guy just wanted to write a cute song for his wife, give him a break

then dont sell it as a single for 1.29

^ i never denied that it sounded like a "typical single" or that it was a single, i just meant that it had an actual purpose rather than just being one of those radio friendly songs only made for the sole purpose of being a radio friendly song

I never said that it was a "typical single" either, or that it was bad. I just said that they clearly wrote it with the mindset of being sold as a radio-friendly single which is why its the most poppy and synthy track on the entire album. Also, every radio single has purpose! Usually they just dont have good ones!

Underwhelming album full of gimmicks.

I think the "gimmicks" work, but if these guys werent being so fucking pretentious about how cool they are for using their "gimmicks" then this would be miles better.

yeah i get what you're saying! i basically just thought it was silly that people were being harsh about a cute song about some guys wife, like they were expecting it to be super in depth and serious and stuff

I dont know why anyone is expecting that from the guys who wrote "gangstas dont cry therefore I'm mr. misty eye" but ok.

whether or not you think they pull it off or not, they typically have more serious subject matter than something as simple as tear in my heart. that's what i was referencing.

this band is gimmicky as hell and really uncommitted to any direction, making them seem really mediocre

Album Rating: 2.0
I think they have a signature sound... but they apply different genres and styles to that sound... it's really hard to explain but even though every song has some different genre and style there is always something in them that make them all sound the same and true to the group's sound.
Like I said before, their earlier work is better because it's gimmicks are far more refined and they aren't being so pretentious about being "gimmicky" by taking stabs at mainstream music.

More Christian bullshit.

"even though every song has some different genre and style"
dude its literally all pop

the only things i'd even consider separating into different genres is the ukelele stuff and all the other stuff. otherwise, they just play around with different sub genres or styles in most of their songs; i definitely wouldn't call it a genre switch. to me personally it's still all a type of pop though like TheSpaceMan said.

I guess so, I need to be clearer on what I say.

it is indeed literally all pop. there's no song on here that lacks significant pop elements. no doubt i think is kinda close but nah, it's still pop.

"doubt i think is kinda close but nah, it's still pop"
It sounds uncannily close to mainstream hip-hop/R&B. If anything, it's the poppiest thing on here, rivaled only by "Ride" and "Tear in My Heart" (which are both superior)

This thread was terribly boring to read 4/10
album is great, but the best thing about this band is their live shows. For me they are especially crazy because I happen to live where they grew up so I get the hometown shows :^)
