Sufjan Stevens is going to be so much better than anything else this year.

I'm honestly thinking a 3-3.5 for this. Some good jams, but nothing really screams that this was worth 9 years of waiting. And yea, Pistols is pretty shit, but I'm pretty sure its pretty self aware.

"With Kendrick Lamar dropping what some of our users are calling "this generation's Dark Side of the Moon""
I prefer this than Kendrick Lamar, but that's mostly because I'm not a hip-hop person

I don't understand the hate for "Shit in your Cut." I think it's their most lyrically innovative on the album and the melody is straight-up hypnotic.
The album, after a few listens, is interesting but possibly not as cohesive as it could be. I think this album is so close to being something great but it lacks an "it" factor. Regardless, I think it's a strong showing and I'm hoping they can push out quality albums late in their career like Arcade Fire has managed to do. I have a hunch Brock has listened to Reflektor more than once.

I think with bands like Modest Mouse, people either want this to be another landmark record or will discard it as a disappointment. Will this record realign the stars and change the world of music? No, but it's enjoyable and something I would expect from the band 20 years into their career.

This certainly looks like it's disappointing long time fans of the band which is a shame.

Agreed, but it's unrealistic to expect the same enthusiasm, angst and quality of music that the band hasn't been doing in over a decade.

Album is pretty much exactly what I expected, flawed but very enjoyable.

Agreed hard, I'm kinda just getting into the band so I never really went in with huge expectations for that reason but I love them.

Same. The same people wishing Modest Mouse would go back to their roots are the same fans who dream of Metallica going back to releasing an album like Ride the Lightning. It's not going to happen and having such high standards only hinders your appreciation for their new stuff. I've listened through this twice already and I really enjoy it.

God damn, I god to listen to this whole album for the first itme this morning and I'm already liking it a lot. It wasn't mind-blowing, but it was up to the standards I've come to expect from Modest Mouse.
I really like Pups to Dust, Wicked Campaign and The Tortoise and the Tourist upon first listen- still digging Lampshades on Fire and Coyotes.

Be Brave is so boring.
On the Modest Mouse subreddit, someone said that it was going to be a "massive summer hit." I'm appalled by how dumb some fans can be when they're clustered together.
