I think Dark Matters is actually pretty obnoxious more than anything, the raw CD without the narration is much better than the regular album. Sky Blue is definitely a solid 3.5 though.

Yeah I think the original ziltoid was the right balance of music with a little story/silliness mixed in, whereas dark matters is too much story and not enough focus on the music. It's still not horrible, just could be better considering it's devin

Apparently Brendon Small (Metalocalypse and Galaktikon) is enjoying this. Galactic cannibalism? ¿por favor?

The narration is what makes Dark Matters. This release is awesome, some songs like A New Reign and Midnight Sun are some of my favorite Devin Songs of all time.

After a few days listening to both records I favor Sky Blue, it listens fluid and I love the overkill of Anneke's voice. Dark Matters is Grwowing on me, I was put off a little by the narrator who can't seem to shut up. So for now a solid 4!
Oh yeah, the vinyl boxset is beautifullll...

But to be honest, Dark Matters IS a continuation of ZTO, I dunno why the reviewer said it's just a modern re-imagining. The story continues, there are direct plot connections and shoutouts and there's even a hint that it might not be the last chapter. Haha, that would be awesome.

3.8 avg score and only like three of the people giving it a 4/5 actually comment here. Does anyone else find that weird.

Universal Flame is easily the best of the Sky Blue CD IMO. Still digesting Dark Matters.

This is one of the hardest things to say, and I'm sure I'm going to get murdered on here for saying it. But I'm not impressed by this at all, and I think I'm falling out of love with Dev...its been happening since Epicloud.
I just miss the days when he would actually sing! Instead of hiding his voice behind a womans voice, or a pseudo choir, or way too much echo and effect. All those things were fine when they weren't so constant.

^Dude you have James Quall as your profile picture. You can't lose in that current state.
I agree though, I prefer his older stuff and Epicloud was a disappointment at first but grew on me with time.
Also I do not care for Anneke in Devin's music so I'll most likely prefer Dark Matters when I get my copy.

sky blue is pretty awesome. Easy to get into but the songs have a lot more going on than you first realize - it grows much more than epicloud or several of his others did imo.
