"haven't seen a post from you in ages "

i post around a little, sometimes. and i browse the site somewhat often. sputnik is perma-

bookmarked in my browsers and i am usually "signed in." the forums have falling off so not much

to post there, and i never really "posted" much here. so "ages" may pass, or seem to

i always like visiting, though. and being irreverent, a little. i also have a near finished

review or two coming. just some things i found on an old back-up drive. The Replacements Pleased

To Meet Me is coming

i like writing news but have been censored for my editorializing as if this is CNN or some shit.

i thought music news was supposed to be fun, entertaining, and a bit irritating to some. but i

guess its just all tour dates and record releases. seems a section where users "post" though, so

i guess that is important

i wrote a piece about X visiting the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame and the entire part about how the

Hall is such an elitist, east coast circle jerk was cut out. that was the most important part of

the article! or at least the best part. i mean how hard is it to let someone read

something here at sputnik?

oh, anyway. end rant and on to this album. i like the album, and the last half is being revealed

to me, starting with Volcano but really settling in at Raised By Wolves and the tracks which

come after. i look forward to getting there with the album. and enjoy getting there

on a final note some so called music journalists / reviewers should just quit. i just read a

review criticizing the album and U2 for being "stadium rock" (hello 1992) and ripping off

Coldplay (i kid you not) at something they were accused of ripping off from U2. and what was the

criticism? the opening "chant" for The Miracle

because as we all know U2 hasn't been doing that since Boy in 1980. now they must stop. now they

are doing what Coldplay do which is doing what U2 does and now U2 has to stop doing it or they

are ripping off Coldplay ripping off themselves and are generic "stadium rock"

some people it would seem flunked their Rock 'n Roll History, 101 class

That's so dumb. Many critics just spout the same critic over and over for certain bands. I mean. Listen to "Ghost Stories" then listen to "Songs of Innocence" the similarities are way smaller than between "X and Y" and "how to dismantle an atomic bomb". The two bands did not develop in the same direction.

Also Coldplay got big by putting a new spin on U2's formula. Not the other way around.

I officially dig this record. Plan to celebrate by donating blood, then serving 5 years in the peace corp and then living as a peaceful dairy farmer in the midwest consulting with my inner self in the name of our Lord, Bono. Amen.

I actually like some U2 stuff. Achtung Baby is one of my favourite albums. But this, this is just... I gave it a chance. I listened to it a couple of times... but there is absolutely no soul in it. They've been sleep walking ever since All That You Can't Leave Behind.

I think U2 has some classic albums (The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby) but this sure as hell ain't one of them. No way this album is anything higher than a 2.0 unless you are a delusional die hard fan. No way...

Got this for free on iTunes. :/ Now it messes with my music playback when it tries to play them! Thanks for this crap album I don't even like. No offense to their fans, though!

"anything higher than a 2.0 unless you are a delusional die hard fan. No way..."

that is not true. it is easy to imagine a person completely unfamiliar with the band liking and

rating the album higher. the first three songs alone are really good pop songs. does u2 get to

do pop? of course, they always have. and no arguing these are good songs. i mean you can argue,

but you will lose

this is a music site, right? so we are all welcome to our own opinion. its not a perfect album

and of course not ATYCLB. but it is different enough from Vertigo to be better imo, and a better

album of songs than presented on No Line

for me it's the sort of album that keeps getting more listenable. it's tuneful, and dumb as it

may sound, it goes good with summer. i like spending time outside, in the sun. this album sounds

good when i am out and about. even Iris is catching on!

some might like that song, i think its ok. but i am not hitting the "skip button" yet

just saying i am a fan, yes. but not a fanboy and you need not be to know this is not a 2, on

any level. if you will rate it a 2 a comment of "boring" or "commercial" or "U2 ripping off

Coldplay ripping off U2" will not hold up. because that may be true for some. but it's still a

good record all it's own. that's it. it's a good recording, and album of songs. and given the

band's own history it's a surprising and well done one

for fans. may i speak for fans? we like U2, usually

anyway this is not a 2. it might not be a 4. after all i am a fan so what do i know! but

it is not a poor effort by any standard imo
