I agree on Lindgren, but not on Lopez. Axe's drumming is really fantastic on this record.

Definitely doesn't need Lopez. Axe is much more suited to this style.

I personally prefer Axe to Lopez overall, although admittedly his drumming on here isn't as incredible as it was on Heritage.

I don't know where to start. Lopez owns Axe, yes Axe may be more varied/rounded, but as a total MASTER of a specific genre (Death Metal) Lopez kills it.

Axe is very, very good, but his heavy playing doesn't excite me as much as Lopez.

As good as his drumming is on Heritage, the drumming on Ghost Reveries slaughters it.

Basically, he's a jack of all trades master of none, whereas Lopez is a God.

IMO

But I agree that Axe is more suited for this album and Heritage definitely.

I don't give a shit if Lopez is a master of a specific genre tbh, I just prefer Axe's playing on Heritage (and perhaps on here too, although to a lesser extent) to anything Lopez has done.

Axe's heavy playing doesn't really excite me that much either to be honest but his jazzy drumming excites me more than Lopez ever could.

'I don't give a shit about that tbh'

But surely that doesn't make sense? If the GR drumming sounds better than Axe's drumming on heritage then how can you prefer Axe? Or am I missing something...

The outro for deliverance for example - to draw from another album - sounds better than anything Axe has done and it's not technically THAT great it just gives the raging hard ons.

I just prefer Axe's playing on Heritage to anything Lopez has done. [2]

I mean it makes no difference to me if Lopez is a better death metal drummer. I prefer Axenrot's non-metal playing to anything Lopez does.
